How about glare from the windscreen? This has been complained and looks like the upper part of AAL might add glare. I guess the upper part can be turned off too?

Personally I have not seen any glare, from my 4-month experience with the AAL. But then, I have not tried the 'full blast' mode (yet).
Judging from the pic above, one sees the glare of the central vents on the windshield but not the upper AAL strip.

Off topic:-
AAL should be useful during Christmas time.
And, for those of us who have lived through the disco era, we appreciate the AAL more...

Yes, like in most other Benz's you can set the brightness of specific zones for the Ambient Lighting.

Agree and only glare I have is from the central vents. I do not see any from AAL strip.

All,
Relatively good news. I just reviewed my 22 S580 order and received my official build sheet. Vehicle is scheduled for February. It’s an AMG line with warmth and comfort, 4D sound, without HUD/3D, 21” wheels,

Looks like active ambient light IS present on 22’s, but the warmth and comfort package is what’s getting ding’d for chips (as shown in 22 model guide). What’s confusing to me is what exactly the warmth and comfort package replacement/credit codes actually cover.

I’ve received credits for the following DB0 package items (Warmth and Comfort): multi contour seats, fragrance and the “D8R” code. Does anyone know what D8R credit reflects? I believe it’s the rapid seat heating function and if so, does that mean I lose arm rest and center console heating altogether or just the rapid functions associated with all of it?

can’t find anything that actually spells out what the credit codes associated with DB0 include….

Bill

Actually, the best way is possibly to call up your dealer. After all, they sell you the car and they should know, should they not?

mercedes s500
Hello everything, I just purchased the 22 s500. I noticed missing of the “active” upper stip LED, and I immediately called my dealership. They had 2 more additional s500 in stock and non of them had they upper LED lighting up. I drove up to the other dealership that had s580 in stock, and I figured out that s580 has AAL Upper led president! It’s listed as 878 code under “optional equipment” for $790 and my s500 has it under “871 standardAmbient Lighting”
now, Ive called dealership and aksed if this is due to the chip shortage, since the missing LED Light is there in my s500, and its just not working. They did not know the answer. 2 days later on today’s day, dealership called and informed me that AAL could be added to my s500 (but they are not sure about how much this could cost), as a SOFTWARE UPDATE! Hehe that was something I didn’t now expect. hopefully this is true, I will try to take my car to the service department and see if the system software upgrade will make my AAL in s500 working correctly, and assume I would need to pay $790! I will

let you guys know

There are so many shortages that getting an S right now is like entering a lottery. There have been some Ss with AAL and some without, some with air balance, down without, and some with part of it but it’s not activated, and then some with multicontour seats and some without. It gets complex for cars that have warmth and comfort. There are essentially 3 different warmth and comfort packages right now.

Theres DB0, the regular warmth and comfort package. This has the power rear seats, heated and cooled, plus the heated surfaces, rapid heated rear seats, and energizing comfort. $3,800. Many current Ss are still getting this.

For 2021s missing the massage seats (D9A credit i believe, $1700), they got the “warmth and comfort launch package”. 2021s have the same thing but it’s called Lite instead of Launch. Code DF0 I believe. It’s $200 cheaper, so $3,600, and is missing the energizing comfort, which requires the massage seat. Missing air balance, also a part of energizing comfort, is also a reason to get “Lite” and often happens in conjunction with cars missing the massage seat, although I’ve definitely seen cars with massage seat but credit for air balance or non operational, and I’ve also seen cars without air balance but with the massage seats.

Finally, and what I assume you have, is code DY1(?), which is also called the warmth and comfort package, but it on cars with credit D9R in addition to D9A. They’re missing the rapid heating front seat, which is D9R ($450), and DY1 is the same as DF0 but missing the rapid heating rear seat, hence why it also costs $450 less. It still has the heated surfaces (center consoles and armrests), power back seats, and regular heated and cooled back seats.

Side note: I’ve seen most (all?) of the cars with D9R and DY1 also have D9Z, which is the code for missing pillow headrests, but as far as I know there is no cost associated with that, and any car with D9A doesn’t get the headrests even though not all of them show code D9Z too.

Theres a fix for those with missing Ambient lighting

please Help im suffering. I don’t believe these

There is an easy fix for the missing ambient lighting issue, but it will vost about $1500-$2000 but well worth the $

Theres an easy fix for those that are missing the Active ambient lighting. You can now purchase the Active ambient lighting kit which is plug and play.

Its the missing Ambient lighting strip that goes on the door and the Dash, due to the Chip shortages, my car is one of many that didnt come with the Active ambient lighting. How does it look suspicious? As u can see, its the actual replacement parts

How do you code the car to activate the active ambient light feature? Accessing a W223 with a clone diagnostics tool does not work any more and I doubt Mercedes would allow adding the option to the data card for SCN coding.

If it is just a fixed ambient light that follows the standard ambient lights, then no coding would be needed but it would not be the same thing as the OEM option.

Mines are being shipped atm, i can update once I receive them and once they are installed. Im having a friend of mines install them at his stereo shop. Mercedes will probly avoid the install job or they’ll rape you on labor price if they do install them TBH. I was told by my service guy its better if i found my own shop that can install them. cheers

There are several items for sale under the same link, I think $320 is for the roof speaker or the rotating tweeters.

Yea, just wanted to let everyone know theres a solution if they really wanted the lighting. I know mercedes will NOT add it on after production. Its either the car has it or it doesnt. Which kinda sucks. I for sure need to have it since its the main attraction for the interior
