It's so much more special when you order and once it arrives the waiting is soon forgotten.
I do wish manufacturers kept buyers better informed about the cars progress while in the pipeline. This is an example right here; there no reason why the buyer can't be given an estimated time to clear the VPC. They know it. It would be simple to kick out an automated email saying something like "Your car has made it to the VPC. Current estimate to process car is 8 to ten days."
It's not so much the waiting; it's the uncertainty that gets ya.

Agree with you comepletly. My last four cars have been ordered and being able to build exactly what I want and then track it as it moves through the system is part of the fun. Five cars ago I did a European delivery which is even better (if MB ever brings it back).
I also understand the frustration with an MB USA website that is poorly maintained/updated and the lack of communications after an order is in progress.
For me, my current car, S-580e, is in-port in Brunswick since Jan. 9, and I have no word on when it might be released or when there will be a MSRP.

After a ~ 4 month delay, the S580 I ordered mid 2022 arrived today! I had to say goodbye to my 2020 GT63. I have only driven a Mercedes as a daily since the day I graduated my residency almost 20 years ago. The GT63 was one of my all time favorites. It was unfortunate that my S580 took so long as the value of my GT dropped compared to what I was going to get for it a few short months ago.
The only option that I regretted not ordering was the night package as a few weeks ago I realized that I like the 21" wheels with black inlays much better (yes I know.. they are going to explode sooner than later). I ran over at lunch soon after the car arrived on the carrier for a quick peek. There happened to be a recently ordered S580 that had the wheels I wanted. It turns out the customer wanted the wheels I had instead. We did a swap and everyone was happy!
I came back tonight to pick it up and complete the paperwork. I negotiated a slightly higher price for my GT to cover the wheel and tire insurance. They also comp'd a full size spare for me.
I snapped a few quick pics. I will post better photos in the photo thread later this week.
Yes, they are asking almost 600k for that G Wagon!

Looks like they're finally updating the configurator; you can't actually do it yet but the 22 configurator is gone. For the moment, you can swap paint and get a look at the new Manufaktor colors.

@SQBill Thank you. It was worth the wait. I have a 20 min drive to work. This morning I got into the car, turned on the heated massage and drove with the radio off. There was not a sound from the interior cabin (squeeks or rattles) even over speed bumps. It is just an absolute pleasure to drive. It is smooth but the power is there when needed. I did not want to get out of the car. I arrived rested and relaxed.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone! I was happy with the build. Especially after being able to swap out the wheels at the last minute. I have only driven the car a few times. I dropped it off this AM for tint (35%), PPF on the hood/front bumper, and ceramic on the exterior. I won't get it back until Friday after work. We are taking to see the inlaws a few hours away on Saturday., I will post pics and my experience driving it this weekend. On a side note my shop gave me a Tesla to drive. Man, it is weird. I have never driven an electric before.
I had a Taycan Turbo for a week. Lots to like there but I think EVs are a better fit in the luxury and crossover space. Not saying anyone should agree; that's just where I see one fitting in to my life.
I'm guessing you traded for the 20" twisted spoke?
Congratulations! Looks fantastic! I like the silver trim instead of the black on Granite Grey, so I feel you made the right choice. How do you like the two-tone steering wheel now that you've had some time with it?

Thank you. I like the aesthetic of the two-tone wheel...However, I am worried the white leather is not going to hold up. I would have rather had the majority of the wheel black and white in the 12 o'clock position. I really like the thickness of the wheel. The wood and leather wheels are thinner and are not as comfortable to me. The heat radiating thru wheel is quite nice.
Congrats on your order! If you signed on the dotted line for a specific price you're locked in. If you are at an agreed price but haven't signed anything stating an agreed price it depends on the dealer's ethics and the state you're in.
In my state without a contract you're SOL if the dealer balks. In the real world dealers have honored the price for me but I've only had the price change a couple times so it's not much of a sample.
If it is written it shall be done. Julys a fair bit away and memories can be short and creative. Get as much on paper as you can so you have some certainty. You don’t want to be at the mercy of a dealer.
