S580 differences from S560?

Hi all,

Not sure there is definitive list of the many differences between the 2 models? If you know of one or a link I’d read it word for word. Trying to figure what I’d be missing if I got a 2020 vs 21. Anything that new owners who’ve had both were blown away by other than mbux, 4d sound, touch screen, more hp, quieter and augmented reality hud?
I’m ready to finally pull the trigger on either an S63 or an S580 but I can’t make a decision. Usually I’m a pro at making rash decisions but this one still has me baffled. Cheaper running costs and newer tech for the S580 might be offset by the sheer fun factor and exclusivity of the S63 but I don’t know. Do I really need a rocket that weighs 5000lbs? I’m not OCD but I fear the screens on the new one might push me to the other side with dust fingerprints and so many sub menus. I need help. The first step is admitting it.

I have the S500 SWB so I can only make a few comments. The fingerprint issue is really a non issue for me> I keep a micofiber cloth in my centre console and give it a quick dusting regularly. This only takes a few seconds. Also once your preferences have been set up in the car the sub menus become a non issue. In fact when I read or hear about some features on this forum or from other sources its fun to expore those features through the sub menus to see what they are all about ...

Crab man. Trust me I’ve driven both to the point where I need to drive to the 3rd 0r 4th furthest Mercedes’ dealership cause they all know me here! Still can’t decide. So many pro’s for each. The one thing I’m certain of is no more BMWs for me. Tested last week and 750 x drive seats were brutal if you are wider than a ballerina and the new 7, while way more comfortable, is pretty polarizing and IMO only looks good in frozen black to hide that Picasso or Pollack front end. Looking forward to being a Benz guy for the first time. If I could just make up my so called mind.

Keep the S560. ;-) Wish I had.
You have driven both right? Sat in both?
The overall material quality and craftsmanship on the S560 is higher - I think everyone would agree.
I think the S580 is a step towards the Tesla S class - it is more minimalistic and clean - but lacks the luster of the S560.
The fancy disco lights in the S580 are meaningless.
The Augmented reality "arrows that point where to go" is a gimmick more than it is amazing feature.
The ride quality.....At least in my case - - the S580 does not deliver. Their new suspension design is inferior to the W222.
If you are near Dallas - we can swap cars for a few days.

I appreciate the offer Zukiper. I’m actually trying to decide which to buy not trade up. I think if I had an S63 I’d be very happy and not looking to upgrade. My concern is that I’m buying the old body style. Older tech. Potentially much higher running costs, maintenance, repairs, insurance and even warranty…but an S63 feels so much more special or different than all the other s560’s or S580s out there I might just have to go that way.

I find the augmented reality HUD extremely helpful with navigation; it's hard to miss a turn once you get used to it. I can say for sure that having the 223 makes other cars feel old, antiquated.

I feel like the lack of switchgear for frequently used functions is a fail but the MBUX is actually easy and intuitive in use when you become familiar with it. If they did nothing but add some knobs to what's there now I'd be happy with that part of it.

Probably a good time to mention the voice command interface: It actually works in this car. I really don't like talking to my cars but in this car you need to if you want to make it easy to leverage the tech and comfort features. Wave massage, you just ask for it and you're done. The grandchildren left the blinds half up, half down, you tell it to roll down all the blinds and it's done. I was very much down on voice commands in my car until now, here it's reliable, easy, and a value add. If only things like sound volume were on a knob.

2022 - S580 and 2019 Porsche Carrera S Cabriolet
The cars are indeed, very different. Much has been written about the S580’s failings but, having owned a 2020 560, I would tell you I like the 2022 S580 better. Yes, there are some issues with it, but overall it’s a classy, up-to-date, model. Note: the upgraded Napa leather makes a nice difference in the appearance. Also, my 560 had a transmission issue 3 -> 2 downshift was always rough for me - a known issue with that model, I was told.

I climbed back into the older S560 owned by my uncle and wow its a bit dated now. Nice, comfy but showing its age compared to the S580. I love how modern the S580 is and it rides very smooth and no issues so far. I initially took a while to get used to it and didnt like it but now its great.

use to own s550 2015 until It was totaled due to a flash flood …my choices were between 2020 s560 56k miles or 2021 s580 61k miles. Went to the dealership left with the s560.. of course I went prepared to purchase s580 but when I test drove both. It just felt as if the s580 inferior: from ride quality down to the headrest pillow.

Reading all the posts comparing the W222 vs. W223, it appears that the general consensus is that the W222 had better build quality overall.

I had the privilege to extensively drive the W222 S600 for 2 months back in 2016.
My ‘25 S580 is my first MB and I’m happy with the way it’s built and drives.
With almost a decade apart, I can’t say I’m capable of objectively compare the two generations.
One thing I can say for sure though, is that the W223 looks more contemporary.
The overall proportions of the exterior screams newer model with the bigger wheel house and higher belt line.

While I agree the W222’s interior looks more upscale with better material and more mechanical buttons, the W223 is loaded with more modern tech.

I would much rather take the W222->W223 change than the G11->G70 7 series model change.
It may not please the existing MB fans but the W223 was attractive enough to pull me in.
Something to think about.

Like I’ve said before having had both, overall I prefer the 580.
