Water entered horn/dealer says not covered

My horn started sounding a bit low. Took it to service and they said water had entered it. Not sure how. But long story short, they said it’s not covered under warranty and I had to replace 2 horns; one the regular and one for “signals.” Didn’t even realize there was a horn (maybe that’s not the right nomenclature) just for signals.

How can water entering vehicle not be covered under warranty?? That’s like saying if the sunroof leaked it would be covered.

You have a crappy dealer, not sure how they determined it was water damage but why even bother? It's not like Germany is going to ask for the $100 dlls parts back.
The horns are outside by the bumper so water damage could be due to pressure washer at a wierd angle or treading water.
On my w222 I had to replace both horns, which is the first time I have ever had to do that.

Was it covered under warranty?

That sounds ridiculous. All that stuff should be sealed shut if its on the exterior of the vehicle. I think its time to find a new service center

It can't be sealed because you want the sound to propagate, the horns have always been outside but at least I had never had one fail. Not sure if the lower positioning is a problem.

So surely MB engineers have taken this into account. It’s not like it’s difficult to make something waterproof especially low tech horns. I just can’t believe it’s not covered under warranty.

Yes I can't recall if horns are supposed to be immersion proof but at the very least some water resistance is expected.
It might well be they changed supplier or the supplier lowered the quality.
The design is nothing particular of MB it's the same traditional horn everybody else uses only set to the specific MB frequencies.

I've have the same situation now. We had a rain storm and now the horn sounds a bit low. It must be the placement of the horn that allows water to enter it.

Sorry to hear that. Please let us know if they cover it under warranty.

I could see a denial if the car was flood damaged but in day to day use it should be water-resistant enough to survive. Possible to try another dealer?
