My California Closets girl has a 2022 S500 (who knew they did that well?!) and the check engine light won’t go off so they are buying hers back. I told her your story…she’s going Range Rover next.
Yes, I got it back 30 days after it was towed in. Prior to this incident, the car had been in the shop, on and off, for another almost 20 days. In California, a vehicle that has been “out of service” for a total of more than 30 days, for non-regularly scheduled maintenance, is considered a Lemon. MBUSA knows this, but they are still “researching” to see if my car qualifies for a repurchase. I expect to have word from them in approximately two weeks. If they deny the buy-back, that day I hire a Lemon Law attorney. I am all over the place thinking about a replacement. From a used W222, to a new S500, to a Genesis G90, to an EQS SUV.

Absolutely. We have done a couple of closets with them and the bottom line is we have never found another company that has such nice products, so well thought out designs and does the installations in an almost “surgically” clean manner.

Yes my wife's friend spoke very highly of them as well. She was particularly complementary to their commitment to getting the job done as they promised.

Never understood the allure of California Closets because it has a 'builder' or 'spec-home' look; is it only popular down south because it's American and it's more affordable than the European systems?

The Italian systems from the likes of Porro and Poliform are much nicer both in term of quality and aesthetics, but granted you'll pay at least 2-5x more than something similar from CC; I guess you get what you pay for

Mrs Crab is looking at Porro and others (compared to custom) for a remodel that we have going on, they're not giving it away, I'll say that.

Well, you guys who live in most places other than Southern California, can have walk in closets where you can land a plane. Out here in LA-LA Land, probably the average California Closet is around $25 to $35K.

Something in a similar configuration as this with approximately 25 linear feet from Porro would cost 250k+ here in Vancouver. It's a fantastic system designed by Piero Lissoni with stitched leather shelves and is quite popular along with the ones from Poliform and Giellesse. Not sure if the msrp is similar in the states or there's just a high markup because the local market can support such a price

Add a safe and a coffee station and that would be my sister's walk in closet.

No. I’ve both called & emailed asking for an update, but get no response. They initially said “4 to 6 weeks” and the case was opened May 17th, so they will probably take the whole six weeks, which means around 6/28. I’ll update as I hear anything more.

One thing to keep in mind: MBUSA has a TON on its plate right now. Go over to the SUV X254 forum for the new GLC models. You cannot believe what is going on over there. MASSIVE problems with this brand new SUV. The GLC is one of MB's biggest sellers and folks in Atlanta must be tripping all over themselves to try and get this straightened out. They say that all that is needed is a software update, but then they are already issuing buy-backs on this SUV and the thing has only been out a few months. I'm sure my measly S580 is lost in the shuffle over there.

I've said this before, but I believe it bears repeating: MB needs to SLOW DOWN a bit. They are introducing WAY too many new models, with WAY too much new tech. It seems very clear that they are not testing these new models to the same extent they have done so in the past and are creating HUGE problems for themselves. The GLC is an "entry level" MB. Lots of folks "trade up" from Fords & Toyotas, thinking they want to experience Mercedes-Benz luxury and build quality. Some of these folks experiencing issues will NEVER come back to MB after these experiences and one can only imagine the stories they are telling their friends & neighbors. Many are probably praying to have their Toyota's back. This is not good.

Got me curious actually, I wonder why they are buying vehicles back when they knew a software update was available soon to fix the issues and make customers whole again.... unless those vehicles met the requirement for lemon law?

Stream what you say about pushing out too many cars too quickly is right on point. Back in the glory days with the W126 that had a 12 year production run, MB made a big deal about the level of R&D that went into that car to make it ‘The Best Car in the World’. It went through 10 years of R&D before it was all said and done. Unfortunately that is a time that is long gone at MB.

The development of the W140 began as far back as 1983. Long before it was on the market. It turned out to be the most over-engineered vehicle in history for its time. I still think it is an amazing car. One critic said the only thing that MB said was wrong with the W140 was the height of the roofline. It is indeed too tall and should have been 6" lower. Other than that, it was a fantastic car (for its day). The next series was the WORST car they ever put out. The W220. My first brand new MB that I ever drove off the lot was a 1996 S420 and I was so proud of it. The next MB was a 2000 S500 and I got rid of it within 9 months as the suspension was a failure.

While there are some product and ride height choices I don't like, that thing looks badass.

Mercedes should have built its Alabama SUV Plant in Huntsville instead of Vance. More talent up North and home of NASA Marshall Space Center and Army's Redstone Arsenal where the German V-2 Rocket Scientists settled after WW2. SMDC out of Redstone took over Navy operations of my High Energy Laser Contract at White Sands Missile Range. I'm glad that I didn't purchase that ML320...bought the last year of 2 door Chevy Tahoe in 1999 with my GM-Hughes Employee Discount instead.

Have a classmate from the University of Rochester who still works for NASA in Huntsville and collects classic M3 bimmers but don't go there as much from GA residence since Thomas Pit BBQ closed its doors in Madison on Highway 72.
