Bumper ripped off by parking spot tire stop

Guys and Gals,
FYI. I parked my car in a parking spot last night that has one of those concrete tire stops in the front as I am sure you have seen many times. The dam thing is only 4" off the ground. When I parked it I pull in so the rear of the car wasn't sticking out as not to get dinged in the back. I parked the car alone and when I returned to pull out I had three others join me in the car. The additional weight (these are not haeavy people) must have made the car sink down such that the plastic pan that sits under the bumper on the C43 caught the concrete stop. When I backed out it partially ripped the right side of the bumper loose. I am now being told by MB that I have to get a whole new bumper. Wanted to warn all of o about this so it doesn't happen to you.

Here are two pics of the damage. Not sure I need a new bumper. I am going to speak to the body shop guy.

A lot of those connections are made in a "breakaway" fashion so as not to do more damage than necessary...many components simply snap together and pop apart. Have you attempted to snap the bumper back in to place with the fender, etc? Same goes with underneath the car...connections are usually made with plastic snaps as opposed to screws so the snap breaks instead of the whole belly pan or bumper connection.

Call me crazy, but it sounds like the dealer is out to make a dime off your perceived ignorance.

Agreed, it looks like you can just pop the bumper back in. There are screws under the hood which attach the bumper to the front of the car.

Almost the same thing happened to me. In my case, the bottom of the car was slightly scratched. Now whenever I park where they have those cement blocks, I don't get within 2 feet of them. I would rather stick out a bit.

I back in everywhere because of this. If there is nothing to catch the low hanging lip on the bumper, I will pull in forward. But if there is a curb more than 2" off the ground, I'll back in. The clearance in the rear is double what the front is plus the camera lets you know exactly where you are.

I also agree with the above that it should be an easy fix. Anyone that tries to tell you that you need new parts, other than clips perhaps, is screwing you.

This is why i'm thankful for my 360 camera. I use it everytime i pull in a spot to assure i don't hit the curb or those useless bumper blocks..

I always back in... less chance of running over a toddler, plus also you'll never rip your air dam off.

Yup, me too... i always back into those kind of parking spaces. But, you gotta love the 360* camera. Ever since i had those on my previous e coupe, 'can't live without them. That's one of the reasons i had to order my car. The dealer didn't have any available with the 360* camera on the lot.

This exact same thing happened to me. One of the bolts that holds the cement block in place must have been higher up, and when I pulled back, my bumper came off on one side just as shown in your pictures. The bottom of the bumper (underneath the car) was also slightly bent out where it got caught on the bolt. I took it to the dealer and to a body shop - both said that a TRUE fix would require replacing the bumper.

However, the body shop popped it back into place for me and used fasteners to keep it in place (and did so for FREE!!). The reason why a TRUE fix would require replacing the bumper is because no matter how much care they take in popping it back into place, the bumper is slightly warped/damaged and the alignment will be off no matter what. Right now, you would have to look at my bumper from up close and be looking for a problem to see that it is slightly unaligned. Too bad this is a lease and I will probably have to get it fixed before I turn it in.

Sorry it happened to you as well. For now they have mine somewhat reset and tied up so I can drive it until it gets fixed. The big problem is they have no bumpers! This is rediculous. Am working with MB customer care and the dealer and no one can tell me when I can expect to get a commitment to a date for when this bumper will come in. So far I have been waiting almost a week for an answer. As you can guess I haven't been sleeping well at all.

Angry mercedes damage

For the second time in three months when I backed my car out of a Panara parking spot the front end stuck and was pulled off as I backed up. Didn't hear any scraping pulling in. A patron told me that the same thing happened to her and while I was at the dealership someone pulled in with the same problem..
Is this a structural design flaw? Mercedes denies this as our ins. rates increase. And of course, it could not just be repaired. They had to replace the entire bumper. Time to change brands?

You not driving an SUV. Car has sports springs which lowers the car an inch more then regular w205. Added with front splitter, ground clearance is already low as is.

When in doubt, reverse park.

I reiterate what stockbmw said. This is purely user error. Try being lowered with a CF lip and CF diffuser. You just need to be more cognizant of how low your car is relative to things you are parking/driving near.

The #1 reason to get the 360 camera (or, the front camera option when 360 is not available on that model ... e.g., GTR).

That's asinine. Take it to a reputable independent shop and get it fixed for a few hundred bucks; you'll save a bunch of money and it won't go on Carfax. Carfax alone can cost you thousands on resale value. You don't need a new bumper. Stay away from stealership.

Edit: LMAO just realized the post was 5 old.

My wife did this to my one week old Audi a few years ago and I wasn't happy. She only drives our pickup now.

I had a similar problem. I eased forward into a parking spot that had a cement tire stop, but the front spoiler got caught on it. I got out and lifted up up on the front bumper as my buddy slowly backed it up, but it still damaged the plastic parts underneath. IMO the front spoiler on our 2016 CLA250 was too low for safe operation. When I drive down a ramp onto a street it always scrapes on the street, even it I ease onto the street at an angle. Frankly, in many ways, we have become disappointed in the design and craftsmanship of this automobile. Very disappointing when it has the Mercedes name on it.

This happened to me too. There are bolts on the inside of the wheel well that hold the front bumper assembly on. If you have ever changed out your grill it is the same bolts you loosen to undo the bumper. Pull the front wheel and then take off the wheel cover that is on the inside of the wheel well. From there you will be able to see the bolts that hold the bumper on.
