British unreliability. MB unreliability (powertrain). Watch out RMS failure.

Not terribly large which means poorer ride quality compared with something larger and heavier.

If you like Mercedes-Benz, the GLS might be a good choice. It's known as the 'S-Class of SUVs' because it's very luxurious and comfortable. It has a big and fancy inside, the latest tech, and drives smoothly. If you want something sporty but still comfy, the AMG versions of the GLS are worth a look. They're faster and more fun to drive but still keep the comfort high.

Mercedes says its the "S Class of SUVs" but its really not. It feels notably built to a lower standard with hard plastic on the lower doors, nappa leather is only available in one color...black...if you want any other interior you have to accept the lower end leather which feels way below what a driver of an S Class is going to be used to. It rides really well, but lacks the "specialness" of an S Class. To solve those issues you would need the Maybach GLS at much higher cost and ostentatiousness.

I'm considering a GLS580 myself, its a great vehicle but it would be a downgrade from my S Class.

Urus is on the solid MLB platform, as is the Bentayga. I have not read one complaint about the Urus on Rennlist from posters with experience.

Might be a good time for you to spend time on Rennlist asking these questions. Lots of people there with TGTs and a few Urus, and people who have compared Urus, Cayenne and other models.

Well if money is no object then Purosangue for me!

But I really do think my 2024 Jaguar F-Pace SVR is every bit as good as an Urus and it's less than half the price new so I won't mind the depreciation as much. And of all the hyperSUVs it's the only one you can drive to Walmart without attracting a crowd.

The F pace is very good looking! The Purosangue IMHO is way too overpriced. I love the Ferrari V12. It’s going to be interesting to see the depreciation curve on this SUV. Traditionally Ferrari V 12 Four seaters have had significant depreciation.

I would have loved a Lister Stealth version of the F-Pace but unfortunately they're all the older generation. Masserati and Alfa Romeo make SUVs too but despite being less expensive they attract way more unwanted attention, for me anyways. If I lived in Monaco I'd buy a purple Urus and parade around town in it though. lol

F Pace is the bargain performance SUV of the year. $98 and they throw in 5 years free service. It is no S class comparison though.

Genesis GV90 is drop dead gorgeous and interior is quite nice.

Tampa dealer wants almost 50-60k over sticker with all their add ons. Not worth it in my mind as there is no shortage just speculators buying out inventory.

Bentayga is my vote and if you want a Flying Spur not sure they are that easy to come by.

The interior of my Genesis GV80 was fantastic. Had dark navy blue carpeting and tan leather the called "dune". The service, however, was 100% Hyundai, which is a lot like going to the DMV.

They might have to bury me in my F-Pace though as I'm pretty sure I just bought my last ICE vehicle. Everything from now on will be electric.

F Pace is a lot of fun. I had a rental one for 3 weeks one time from Enterprise (lucky me!) when my Lexus was in the body shop...

If money was no object, I would get a Urus, Porsche Cayenne Turbo with every single option checked off (lol at the markup) or a G63.

I own an S-Class and a current-gen GLS, so I am constantly switching between the two vehicles and making unavoidable comparisons. While Mercedes' marketing department likes the phrase "the S-Class of SUVs," remember that the GLS is simply a 3-row version of the GLEEEEEEEEEE.

So please forgive me, Mercedes Marketing Dept, when I say that the GLE is the "E-Class of SUVs".... and by extension (no pun intended), the GLS is just a longer "E-Class of SUVs."

I'm not a hater, I promise! I really like our GLS. But it's not an S-Class replacement.

I was thinking recently of how expensive they are and what you actually have to do for a living to get one.

<Insert David Lee Roth singing "I'm just a gigolo" meme here>

Well that's kind of the whole point of a purple Urus. Otherwise just get an Audi SQ8 with the 4.0L biturbo V8 and save yourself a pile of cash.

Mercedesbuff, can you please elaborate further on the differences between the GLS and S. Since you own both I would really love the further hear your thoughts. Thanks!

S580 Estate?

Since Mercedes is rethinking its electrification timeline they should develop an ICE S580 Estate/Wagon. Remember the Sultan of Brunei had once ordered a fleet of custom S-Class Estates from MB. Later they should incorporate Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in their lineup (like I posted countless times on this Forum) when its infrastructure becomes more mature over the next 15-25 years. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Mercedes Vehicles should not replace their EVs but join them in their Global Lineup.

Most older folks in my town have replaced their German Luxury Sedans with the Porsche Cayenne...easier for them to get in and out of especially when they attend Religious Services on weekends. My neighbor who owns all the Goodyear shops in town replaced the Escalades he used to purchase for his wife with the Audi Q7 and most recently the Q8 since their 3-boys are now driving their own Hondas and Acuras.

I’ve never owned a GLS, but I did very briefly own a new 2022 GLE and can attest—at least from my very close but still somewhat cursory inspection of the GLS while waiting for the dealer to fix my problem-plagued GLE—that the GLS is nothing more than a stretched GLE. Also, since it comes from the same factory and assembly line as the GLE, which in my view places build quality and quality control in the same closet as their toiletries, makes owning one risky, unless you like constant annoyances and unplanned dealer visits.

Less money than the Maybach? In what universe? New - the Culinan is over 500k, even used 1-2 years old they clock over 400k. My local dealer has 2 year old Maybach for 222k and willing to negotiate a LOT (offer it to me for 190k)

Used 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach S 580 For Sale ($222,449) | Lotus Cars Las Vegas Stock #STK144768 (vegasautogallery.com)
