Ordered a new car today…………
I hate glass roofs and sincerely hope that this ridiculous fad will soon die out. I would order and actually pay extra for a solid, steel roof if I could.
Many people like sunroofs, and it's hardly a fad. You're in Cali, you have this stuff called heat. Travel up I-5 to the other end of the West Coast, and you'll find all kinds of people that only know hot because they experienced it somewhere else, or saw pictures of it on the internet. They like the extra light coming into the car. They've always liked it from the first sunroof, they're going to keep on liking it.
All that said: I'm 100% in agreement that it should be a selectable option.

I want to state a advantage of having a sunroof, depending on the type of vehicle, opening windows at certain speeds there will be lots of wind noise and even buffeting so to get some sunlight from the top and/or fresh air (other than using climate control of course) is a plus.
Disadvantage I can think of is the sunroof cuts into headroom and the other is it might be less rigid. Last but not least is that is another entrance for sunlight and therefore heat, the sunblind can only do so much compared to if the roof didn't have a cut-out and glass in the first place.
Thanks again for your assistance in helping me navigate the unfamiliar BMW dealership game. It is much appreciated. My tint guy refused to tint the Panoramic Sky Lounge Roof due to the electronic wiring. He is adamant that there’s already a layer of film on it as well. I have not noticed any excessive heat.

The one feature I really LOVED in my W222 was the Magic Sky Control. I allows some blue light when on, and turns to somewhat transparent when off on cooler day... Just perfect!

Good luck. U can find a few reports of bubbling too out of no where (and there is already several reports about it that u can already find for a new a car like this), and the same for iX. I think that you can "de-select" the sky-lounge if you are concerned about it.

Anyone is of course free to like whatever they like: I personally enjoy the extra light but not the air; in the 580 the shade often went back and forth, but I never once opened the glass for air.

For me, I hardly ever leave the shade open, but every once in a while I like opening the glass. So having the glass be a piece that doesn’t open is a total waste for me.

I think it’s a manufacturing reality. More people than not want sunroofs, and it doesn’t make sense for them to design two roof designs.
