Advice purchasing used S580

It’s been 9yrs since I owned a S class, but I’m looking for a CPO ‘21 or ‘22. This new model has so many changes and I’m concerned buying a ‘21 due to missing options. I’m not looking to spend over 100k so want to stay under. Any advice if I do buy a 21 over a 22 model? Supposedly the ‘22 has missing options too…. With that being said what should I be looking for or asking dealer before making a purchase? Are dealers still holding firm on price or can you finally get decent deals now on used S classes?

Thanks for any feedback!

Biggest thing missing on the 21's were the massage seats. Although quite a few cars did come with them. Make sure you get the build sheet or original sticker, this will tell you what's missing.

I recently got a very low mileage 2022 (3500 miles) for under $100k with all but one of the options I was looking for (AMG Line, Comfort, 4D sound, rear wheel steering, active ambient lighting). It was missing a very minor item (the air freshener thing in the glove box) due to the chip shortage and that was reflected in the build sheet/sticker. And I think the digital headlights were missing for all '22 models.

Good to know. I was under the impression if items were on the sticker that it didn’t mean the car actually had those items due to chip shortage. Glad to see prices coming down, but these rates are awful! lol

Mine actually showed the credit. It looked like this:

D9D D9D: Credit for factory built wi CREDIToperational Air Balance $-70

$600 plus programming so more than that. I like it and would spec it again but I'm not sure if I'd pay a guestimate of $1k ($600 plus $400 programming) for it.

It's a novelty that I forgot about a week or two into ownership. Never use the associated moods either, also a novelty soon forgotten.

Your milage may vary but IMO if you want to pee away money you'll get more enjoyment out of 1k worth of beer.

Ive got the air freshener thing. Used it once made me sneeze. Never used it again in 2 years. Put the canister the thing comes in in my study. It’s now a souvenir. Frankly useless.

I purchased two CPO Benz from Penske Auto and they were always willing to work to make a deal. I offered quite a bit under asking and they took the offer.

Thanks for the info. Trying to find something local, but it’s tough finding used W223s in white!

It’s hard to find a white with AMG package anywhere close by. After reading so many horror stories about the W223, I’m reconsidering saving a bunch of money and buying a 2020 S560. I love the exterior of 580 just not sold on interior yet.

That really surprises me...

I will say my S560 is the best car I have ever had, I have really, really tried to want the W223 but whenever I get back into mine, I just like it better.

I found a 2020 w/amg package loaded except warmth package CPO w/ 45k miles on it for 55k no stories. I’ll probably make an offer next week. Glad to hear you still love your 2020! I had a 2013 S550 and loved it.

I just bought an extended warranty for it, the lease is up in November and I'm going to at least keep it until then, likely will buy it out. Congrats!

Now I see why you will likely buy it out. I test drove a 2020 s560 today and was blown away by the comfort and power. Only thing that kept me from bringing it back home was there was a funny smell in car that smelt like bad body sweat so that was a deal breaker.

Fart alone in the vehicle... no need for air balance fragrance package

Fart with others in the vehicle and/or others farting in the vehicle, then the air balance fragrance package becomes totally worth it. Only draw back is that the activation button is buried in a climate touch screen menu and makes it more difficult to initiate it in a timely manner. Maybe you could add it to a "favorites" button.
