MB getting into the real estate business in FL!

Instead of fixing the problems with their vehicles, they are getting into real estate: https://miami.mercedesbenzplaces.com
This is just ridiculous.

Other automakers are in it as well, also in Miami. Very cheap though, 4mil for 3 bd. That's what it costs up hear in Boston and it doesn't say Mercedes Benz on the building.

As I would never wear a hat or clothing with an auto manufacturer’s logo on it, I would never live in such a building. I find the whole idea reasonably tacky, for lack of a better word.

If I had to estimate, there are probably 10 guys who would flaunt MB merchandise, for every 1 guy who thinks it’s tacky.

The world can do what it wants but among my friends there are zero people who flaunt any logos, ever.

I personally am moving on from Mercedes because in part, they make no car I'm interested in that doesn't have a stupidly oversized logo. Not kidding. I actually like the SL, and considered it, but the ridiculously oversized logo is a deal breaker.

You do what works for you and that's fine, same with anyone else, I can respect your/their, space and have no grief. I can't get on that train though; not happening.

Wasn't MB fined a BILLION dollars by the German govt? And, their push to electric will result in massive layoffs with the worker's unions raising hell and costing more.. Those two sources of losing money is now trumped (no pun) by them getting into a non automotive business. I smell catastrophe coming, ala Chrysler, of long ago. History does repeat itself, unfortunately. Poof!

I get what people say about crass, gaudy branding.
I personally like understated.
Subdued.
As a perfect example, I point to a car in the movie “The Wraith” starring Charlie Sheen.
That car was so subdued, so understated, that I looked closely at it in every scene, paying close attention to identify it.
I couldn’t find any identifying badging, logos or any other features.
If I had to guess, it was some far East brand, possibly Mitsubishi or Toyota.
I am going to subdue all my badging, except for the grill emblem. It is part of the sensor system, so if I want the sensors to work, I better not.

That's because it was a Dodge prototype/concept car, not an actual production car.

They aren’t the only automaker doing this. Porsche has theirs, Aston Martin has theirs, it’s become a trend for high end automakers. Wasn’t a problem when their competitors did it, this seems like negativity just for the sake of it. I am actually excited to see how this project goes.

I’m just finding this out, but it does not change my opinion of any of them. They may all be magnificent properties, but I still find the idea distasteful and disappointing. I once saw a woman wearing enormous, gold, 3-pointed star, dangling, hoop earrings, along with a white, leather jacket, with a huge MB star logo in rhinestones. Her male companion was decked out in various heavy, gold chains and other gaudy jewelry. I suspect they are on the waiting list for this new residence.

On occasion I wear my Mercedes hat and polo, both Formula 1, because I like to. So be it.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what the issue with this is. The Porsche Design Tower in Miami is quite cool for example. Each condo has an in-unit garage. An elevator takes the car up and puts it in your garage and you can look at it through a glass window from the living room. Expanding the branding is not a new thing even for Mercedes. AMG has been collaborating with Cigarette Racing and building branded boats, complete with matching G63 Cigarette Edition.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...boat-revealed/

I don't see an issue with this at all. As far as flaunting merch goes, I myself keep it subtle. I have a couple of AMG hats, an AMG t-shirt and an AMG water bottle, and a few other items that I got as freebies attending AMG driving events. The items are actually quite good quality. Don't have any Mercedes-Benz merch. The MB brand is a bit too boring for me I suppose. AMG is much more of a lifestyle brand, partly because of the collabs such as with Cigarette and of course Formula 1 and the AMG Driving Academy.

The Porsche Taycan is selling quite well and it's a *gasp* EV. Ford Mach-E sales even went up a whopping 64% last month. Has TV "news" heard about these revelations? I guess you get the sales you deserve.

This is only an issue Stream because you are angry at Mercedes as a company.

I promise you lending their brand to a real estate development has no impact on their ability to solve issues with their cars, if anything the revenue helps them do that.

You realize that the logo on the SL and the Sport MB grille is an MB design tradition that goes back over 70 years right? This is not a new thing.

More importantly the 1952 Panamericana race winner for the current AMG grill. There's actual heritage here.

Yep, I realize they've used stupidly oversized grills in the past, they obviously do so now, and I recognize that they are likely continue to do it in the future. Chances of one ending up my garage are near zero; I'd say zero but I've been wrong before.

Those are only cars widely accepted as some of the most beautiful cars ever made, but what do we all know?

When something is a design staple that goes back over 70 years and you dislike it I don't think you can say you're "moving on from the brand", the brand never appealed to you in the first place

No, the brand and branding are two different things. As to the brand, it has enough appeal to try a car they didn't ruin. As to branding and absurdly oversized logos, there are many fish in the sea and until that changes, I'll take a pass.

When they have been designing cars a certain way for over 70 years there isn't a valid argument that they have "ruined" anything. Thats simply what a sport model Mercedes looks like, and has looked like for over 70 years. Its not going to change, because that is their identity as a brand. You don't have to like it but you're insinuating that something has changed and it hasn't.

Not sure what other "fish" are in the sea because everybody is making their cars with bigger branding now. My point is MB is not "following a trend" here, the trend just so happens to currently align with what they have been doing since the 1950s. They will continue to do it long after this trend has passed.

They're definitely not following any trend. The trend is to debadge and black-out. Not make the logos bigger and shinier. But that's OK, Mercedes-Benz won't be the first car manufacturer to miss the boat and fade into oblivion. Remember the Duesenberg? How about Packard? Bye bye!

It isn't just their sport models, they're going supersized on almost all of their cars now. Open up mbusa and look for yourself; they ARE moving to stupidly oversized logos on pretty much the entire line and that is a change. I'm not insinuating, I'm flat saying it: They are going to supersized logos, have been for years. Deny it if you want.

As to having done it in the past, I don't care. I don't forgive pedophiles just because they existed in the past and I don't think it's ok now just because there are others that are also doing it. Bad is bad and I cut no huss for the lame excuse that others are doing it.
