Picked up my 2024 S580 last Friday. For the last 30 years I have averaged a new car every three years. Now I am 72 and this will be my last new car. Besides being too old the car buying experience is just too frustrating to go through again. I am done.

Totally understand your frustration, Pippen. It used to be buying a new car was fun and exciting. Now, maybe after all these years and all the advancement in technology going to a dealership just isn’t what it used to be. I hate the car buying process, and I’m frankly putting off my next purchase simply for that reason. The pandemic made things a lot worse. Salespeople (and this is a huge generalization] used to know what they were talking about. Today, It’s just a commoditized business. Many on this forum have suggested buying it online and that may just be the way to go.

BTW 72 is not old. Mind over matter my friend. Just keep moving and do stuff you look forward to!!

This would be my last Mercedes, and I will own it until it decides to die. The biggest problem I have with this latest iteration is its consistent battery drain issues. The other is the horrible customer service of Mercedes dealership here in my area which is monopolized by one company.

There might be software updates to improve it and if not then you can trickle charge it or put the vehicle in standby mode during the days you don't drive it, just make sure the car is parked in a secure place as standby mode not only disables all communications with Mercedes Me Connect but also deactivates the alarm and anti-theft system.

I think it's by design and not a great one. I have learned to live with it, I bought a trickle charge and have used it on the regular. Yes, you are right you can put in in standby mode but that's defeat the purpose, especially if I go on flights for long periods of time and have to leave the car in the airport parking. I just use my wife's car or use taxis as an alternative.

I see, taxi makes more sense than parking it in public spaces like that for sure.

We still have a W222 2014 S550 with 110K miles. It still drives great, and other than routine maintenance, it has been a great car.
Now we also have a S580. Hoping to keep it for a while also.

Ah you don't plan to extend it right, that is when it reaches maturity? Will be replacing with the newest model year of the same vehicle?

How long does it typically sit?

I have not had any issues with battery drain at all. Has the dealer replaced the 12v battery?

When my lease is up, I plan on buying and keeping my next car for at least six years with a warranty. I have a few cars in mind and the S Class currently sits in the lead. I purchased pre-paid maintenance on my current lease and kind of felt like I got ripped off but I just noticed my dealership jacked up service costs a lot over the last few years so one thing the prepaid maintenance got me was a hedge against service cost inflation. I’ll probably do the same for my next car as well.

The prepaid service is not a bad deal.

I’ve got a few years on you and I hear you. It is just a pain in the ***. Nothing is simple anymore. I can fondly remember buying my first new MB, a 1979 450SL. I walked into W.I. Simonson, told the salesman, Henry Heil (great name for a seller of German cars) that I wanted a Signal Red with Bamboo interior and gave him a check for $500.00. He told me “probably eight weeks.” The next day he calls me and tells me “your car is here, come & pick it up,” which I did. They found the car at another dealer. I paid the MSRP of $32,200.00, plus tax & license and drove it home. Kept it for 7 years and loved every day of it. Simpler times.

I don't know I recently was seeing what kind of lease deal I could put together on an EQS and had a variety of responses from highly professional and no BS to the worst which was a dealership in California where it was very used car salesman like to no response to my email.

I'm sure the dealerships find some customers to be royal pains in the *** as well.
