Creaking seat SOLVED

Like many others here I have had issues with a creaky drivers seat. The car was just in for the 10k A service and I brought this up. They kept it for 3 days, ordered a special "lubricant" from MB and lubricated everything and its "all fixed" well, of course I get back into it and immediately its still creaking and has not improved at all. So, I decided to really dig into what was causing it to creak. Turns out its really simple.

Behind the seat there is a piece of fabric that finishes the look of the lower seat:

This fabric causes tension on the plastic trim coming around the back of the seat base in these areas:

So, I shoved the fabric back into the seat and pushed it on the sides beyond that plastic trim so now its in front of it and no longer interacts with it:

Creaking is 100% gone. Even in a parking garage this morning with no radio and no HVAC on listening, there is no creaking at all. I'm astonished the dealer is so stupid they didn't see this.

Those of you suffering from this, try it!

I’m astonished the dealer didn’t find that, and I wish I had looked at it much sooner!

Nice find.

Does your passenger headrest rattle over hard bumps when no one is sitting there? You ever take that in or find a solution yourself?

No, the headrest doesn’t rattle. The reclining seats in the back do sometimes. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done there, I would have gotten a car without them if I could have gotten W&C and execlusive Napa without them. I’ve gotten to where that doesn’t really bug me though.

It can be so hard to find these creaks /rattles. Back in the fall I had my car detailed shortly after I noticed a creak. It took months for me to figure out the creak. I eventually figured out it was my Tuxmat rubbing against the gas pedal. My detailer took the mats out to clean them and upon putting them back in, they happened to rub against the pedal. I was certain the sound came from the dash area for 5-6 weeks.

Or turn up the music, but certainly not ideal.

In this case though I found it in 15 seconds lol

I also removed the center console yesterday and fixed a slight rattle coming from there. Super easy to do actually, added a couple strips of felt and all is well.

I read that people get disoriented in an anechoic chamber, they start to hear the activity as well as the blood flow in their body, this is beyond the tinnitus that most of us have some degree of. I can't imagine having this type of chamber on wheels, hence the monitor: ghost.

I should have had you drive my car the first week that I started to notice the creak. It would have saved me a lot of torment!

Fully agree... I really appreciate it when people post about their (good as well as bad) experiences, potential fixed and solutions, with efforts to post photos/write-up.

I tried to do as many of these when I can, and did a few.

Thanks @SW20S !

mine did on my 2022 s 500 and finally as my lease was coming to an end I replaced the car with a 2025 e 450. I now have 8000 kms on the car and absolutely no rattles. fingers crossed that it will stay that way. I hope you can get the rattle problem solved but my dealer could not after many trips to the dealer for that purpose.

Great fix! This is why the forums are so important! The “Special” Lubricant they tried to tell you me and everyone else is actually called Krytox. You can buy it online and it works very well. When actually applies to the correct area lol.

I followed the instructions provided by @SW20S and while the driver's seat squeak is better, it's still there on some turns, or while adjusting my seating position in the seat. Maybe I just need to rinse and repeat the steps?

The plastic around the base of the seat also makes noise, but remember mine had just been lubricated by the dealer so thats much better. You can try getting some of that Krylox and putting it in those plastic seams.

Mine isn't SILENT, but its 95% improved.

Fixed by dealer--- replaced the seat back shell part number 223-910-41-09, no more issue

So was mine from where seat cushion meets the back at the very bottom towards the right when you sit in the driver's seat and pressing on the plastic piece /or putting the fist between it and center console near seatbelt buckle stopped it . It may not be your issue but hope it helps

Not sure if I have the same problem,,, but when I'm driving and hit a bump I hear a rattle from the front passenger side. Driving me crazy, can't tell where it's coming from, but it's the vicinity of the top right side of passenger seat or door area. I was suspicious it was the seat belt mechanism and tried raising and lowering the seat belt "position" to no avail. Any suggestions?

Try putting some felt tape where the grab handle rests against the plastic cover over its bolts.
