Mercedes App...no more valet mode?

Dropped my S580 off at the dealer tonight and went to activate the Valet Protect like I always do...and its gone. Has anybody else noticed this? Can you all check your apps and see if the option is still there?

Yep, still there as of today. Are you running the latest version? They messed something up with a previous update on iOS. The Trip Data feature disappeared, but I didn't check if Valet Protect was affected, too. It was fixed shortly after and a new update was pushed out as well not too long ago.

Best to open a ticket with customer service. The features that show up on that page depend on the VIN, which is controlled server side. When the Trip Data disappeared for me, I opened a ticket and it was restored within a week. It was a configuration issue on their end. It suddenly popped up again w/o an update to the app. Wondering if this is a similar issue that something is misconfigured on their end for your VIN. The Trip Data had disappeared for others as well, so it was a wider spread issue.

Called them...they confirmed the Valet Protect feature has been discontinued because of "overlapping features with geofencing" which of course was only one small part of that feature's functionality.

So, @superswiss don't update your app!

Interesting. I'm already running the latest version of the app. Just checked and there's no update. If it's indeed discontinued, they might be turning it off in batches for existing vehicles. I've never used it, so won't miss it. I have permanent geofences set up around my dealership and my indy. Ignition on/off alerts that Valet Protect offered aren't very useful in my opinion as that will happen whenever they move the car in and out etc. I'm only interested in knowing when the car is taken off premise and that's handled by the geofences.

I like to know when they are working on it, that’s why I like the ignition on and off notifications

The vehicle unlocked alerts tell me that. When they work on the car they leave it unlocked, so I get an alert which tells me that they are working on it. Similarly, that alert has alerted me to the fact that they left my car in the lot and forgot to lock it, so I remotely locked it.

As a data point, I have the latest version available (3.55.0 (2388) ) for Android, Valet Protect is still present and functional.

Well that is very frustrating.

I had to renew my account and pay since my trial ended. I wonder if that’s the issue.

Ah yes. Features don't get dropped in the middle of an active subscription. They will simply not renew the next time.

BTW, you can always verify in the app which services are part of your current subscription. Those that were discontinued in the past show with a Purchase link next to it, but when you tap it you can't actually purchase them as they got discontinued. For example Speed Alert got discontinued a couple of years ago. Per contract law, they can't drop a feature you prepaid for, so they can only drop it next time around.

Don't remember, but lack of use is often the reason features get discontinued. Not worth the cost of maintaining something when barely anybody is using it.

Wait this is different to the speed limit (traffic sign assist?) shown in the instrument cluster right, since that is part of an option purchased at the time the vehicle was ordered? I miss traffic light assist, although I heard that didn't quite work well in the first place.

Yes. The Speed Alert function allowed setting a speed threshold and when the car was driven above that speed it sent a notification. Was somewhat useful for parents who let their teenagers use the car and wanted to be notified if they exceed a certain speed, or if the car was in for service or valet parked, and you wanted to be notified in case somebody took it for a high speed joy ride.

Traffic light assist like many of the Car-to-X use cases suffered from lack of third-party support. Less than a handful of city traffic centers made the required data available for it to work and the data was often delayed, so it wasn't really working well.

I see, thank you. The former not a lot of use cases, the latter lack support, I see. Perhaps it will work better in Europe.

Funny, I do the same thing. But Valet Protect is still active on my updated app.

As a forum member previously mentioned. It will be gone once the trial ends.
