Fun fact, Germany or was it Europe doesn't allow carmakers to put their logo or company designation in the headlights, that is why the star is not exactly the MB logo, MB would had if it was allowed.

Like it or not, the exterior lights have long been the focal point of car designers when it comes to EVs. With the grill essentially falling away, same for the exhaust, the lights have become the means to establish brand identity. Since there is also not much else to attract attention with in an EV, light animations and light shows have taken the job as well. Light bars etc. are taking over the space that used to be taken up by the air intakes. Gotta have to do something with those otherwise boring surfaces.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ECU dyno tune; EDOK TCU tune; BB intakes; sprintbooster
And this ....

  • Joanna: You know what, Stan, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, Brian, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?
  • Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Well, I thought I remembered you saying that you wanted to express yourself.
  • Joanna: Yeah. You know what, yeah, I do. I do want to express myself, okay. And I don't need 37 pieces of flair to do it.

The EU only regulated who, how, where, and size. Logo use is fully permitted, just regulated. For example, they can't use the logo for important safety lights such as turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights. Suppliers aren't allowed to place their logo but manufacturers are permitted. They also limited the size of the light. This is why we started seeing lit up emblems around 2020.

I personally think it looks pretty darn good!
Futuristic look befitting the powertrain.
Not an elegant, or luxurious design but cool nonetheless.

PeterUbers got a like, but only because I like the grill he posted.
I like subdued badging, and I didn’t even really notice the MB 3 point star repetitive grill facing.

Does the regulation include DRLs?

Its subtle, thats why you didn't really notice. By and large Mercedes does these things about the best in the industry.

Subtle enough for sure, I only know about it when the reviewers empathized about it, I still thought it had the diamond pin grille at some point

Good question, DRLs are not on this list of exclusions, the EU regulation permits them to feature a logo, provided it meets all the other conditions, such as the 100 cm2 size limit and placement rules.

Guess that wouldn't work on the DRL for MB's logo. Your research also reminded me of a car reviewer mentioning that audi's sequential taillights. The regulation requires a certain amount of surface area of the first flash of the turn signal, this is in the USA, so there is a huge blob of light turned on alongside the thin light turning. Europe doesn't require that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBiYn0l47XQ

Perhaps also Corvette, nissan GT-R,

Why the first thing you thought of is mazda : ) I wouldn't be surprised if mazda got that design inspiration from Ferrari as well.

First thing to do is eat some mushrooms and go in the self driving car to the concert while enjoying a light show, having a warm massage to boot. The most exciting feature talked about for a 100 series cruiser is the air vent under the steering wheel that blows directly at your crotch.

Never like the GLC to begin with, and this makes it even worse. The interior design and the (only-screen dashboard) is a joke too.
