The new 2027 S-Class: The Walkaround
Oh it just looks tacked on. This is the one remaining thing I really dislike about the W223 interior. I think the new hyperscreen is great. It looks integrated so no issues. But tacked on dashboard/center screens are a big turn off for me. But no one can have it all, even on a car!

Speaking of tacked on screen, I remember Range Rover was proud to call it the "floating glass". https://www.rangerover.com/en-au/ran...echnology.html

I saw my first Maybach S class (W223 today). I haven't gawked that long in a while.
I'm meh on the exterior of the W223 S class, but that Maybach.... after seeing the proportions of that car and the length etc, I think a refreshed Maybach S might be in my future. This is going to sound dickish and I apologize, but these things are...umm, relatively...erm, affordable. It's more than 2 Maybachs for a Ghost, so the way I'm looking at it is, I'm making a responsible choice.

I have mixed opinions on the new hyper screen knowing the new GLC EV has the improved version of the hyperscreen with less bezels.

I'm referring to the screen behind the steering wheel. I don't like how Mercedes just has it sticking out without like a hood thing on top of it. For example on the Range Rover or on the Audi A8 it's a digital screen but it looks covered and not like an afterthought.
I very much originally hated the hyper screen but I've only come to accept it because the interior of the w223 preface lift was the most wretched thing I've ever seen in a flagship sedan. That design of the center console and the screen in the middle is unfortunately just not my thing and I'm respectful for people who have different opinions but my opinion is that I really did not like it. The hyper screen is an improvement and though while not really my cup of tea I think I will come to like it. I'm looking past the cost cutting of the w223 and I could point out all the things that I know that Mercedes has cost cut but there's really not a lot of other options anymore other than say BMW.
I'm a bit lazy so I didn't quote the right posters here but people are right that there's not a lot of cost justification for a Maybach but to be frank I'm probably the wrong person from a .. responsible with money type. I really really like the proportions of the Maybach and because I live in the middle of nowhere parking isn't really an issue because right now when I park my car I'm literally taking up two parking spots... The Phantom really does put everything in perspective because the one I got is a long wheelbase... I guess I'm compensating 🤣
But yes in all seriousness the Maybach would be a daily driver. I am now aware you can get the Maybach mode on the regular w223 which does make me pause but the proportions of the Maybach really elevate the stance of the S-Class in my opinion. I usually hate Chrome but when I saw that car in person today... I really really liked it.

As for Maybach, the proportions look great and really give the car the character that it needs, moving it from boring to something that can potentially stand out.
Also, if you get the FL 580, instead of the Maybach, do yourself a favor and please order the advanced suspension setup with E-ABC. Knowing what you drive today, as someone not coming for cheaper brands or japanese cars, you will hate the car without E-ABC and will not like the ride. It can be great for some, but for you it will be an inferior product on the ride quality side. If you get the Maybach, you are covered as the E-ABC us standard in the case, and even further tuned for additional comfort. When you see the Maybach in person, the proportions look even better than photos. It's exactly what the 223 has always been missing to not look boring and to stand out a little in the parking lot.

It's funny, I thought the same thing initially, but after the facelift I started to like or rather, prefer, the "ipad" even more. They went screen happy with the FL. I know in the W214 E-class, the extended screen is optional. I wonder if its the same with the FL S.
I wonder what the new S will have when the model changes in several years? Do you think Mercedes will go with a continuous screen that spans A pillar to A pillar? Dos that seems like the next logical step??
I think I'm doing a poor job at explaining myself sorry.

I agree that its not a great design and I really went back and forth about upgrading specifically because of the interior design. BMW and the 7 it was the exterior, so its exterior vs interior lol. With that said, I have come to really like the interior. The screen is very functional and positioned well and it no longer looks weird or unfinished to me having lived with it for the past 2 years. What I don't like is the piano black console top and the way the console and screen have that cheap, plasticy edge on them. Very easy for them to have improved it, but they didn't. Facelift has solved these issues IMO, I would just leave the passenger screen off.
As for the Maybach, I think they are just over the top and garish. I'd just get a high, high spec 223 and skip the Maybach unless I was riding in the back. The console design is unchanged including the materials and it’s even more an issue at that price point.
My wife and I left home at the same time yesterday and I had to go pick up her Pacifica from service and she was in my S580 and I was behind her. It’s such a beautiful and elegant car.
I like the big panel of wood in our car, but overall I think the FL design is an improvement.
It’s like BMW and Mercedes work together. Last time it was “okay, BMW you make the outside hideous this year, we will make the inside challenging”. Facelift time, okay BMW you get to make your interior difficult to swallow and we’ll borrow your ugly stick and smack our exterior a couple of times.

I dont think so, and certainly not the super screen, it would require a redesign of the dash.
Honestly I don't think its a big deal, just turn the passenger screen off and then its a big black sheet of glass.

Is it standard (passenger screen) in Europe on the base trim as well? Reason I asked if you can "delete" it is for those who want the say, base W214 layout with just a middle screen without passnger display, although I am fully aware there are differences between W214's superscreen and say EQS' hyperscreen.
Totally off topic.
Out of all the years of buying cars perhaps the most crazy thing I saw was with the present generation Audi A8L. Like the w223 these are p0 mild hybrid vehicles. However, Audi made an option for a specific market which was not a p0. This means this particular model lost all of the 48 volt crap including the 48 volt battery and dc/dc converter. This also meant that belt starter generator was deleted in favor for a typical alternator.
It is absolutely shocking to me that a vehicle of such low volumes had a variant that was traditional. I would easily pay another 10 grand or whatever to get this non-p0 variant.
I don't know if the w223 made a similar model but from a production facility efficiency standpoint it's pretty crazy what Audi did here
