Ran the S55 at the track
Went to Moroso for my first track run. Posted a 13.4 at 104mph with an ok launch and the esp off. I was hoping for a little faster times, but traction definetly became an issue...especially in dyno-mode.
The stock E/CLS class cars were running in the mid 12's. Does the S weigh that much more? I don't think it was just my driving since I saw someone else ran the same time at a different track on dragtimes?
Well, looks like it may be mod time here in the future to get her into the 12's!

You know, I might just try that next time on my of the runs to see how it works out (at least until I get a good launch down without it on).

great looking car!!! i use to have an S and traded it for my e55...i plan on buying another S class soon...600 or 55 don't know yet!
on your times...esp on and don't punch the gas but get it to the floor quick. my S500 ran 14.0's at 97mph...you should be running at least 110mph. good to see an S-owner run their car at the strip!!!!

Thanks John....
It is strange though...all the E/CLS guys were running in the 12's with the ESP off just like myself...and on the 13.4 run I got it to the floor quick with almost no wheelspin!
Starting to wonder if my S55 is a bit on the weak side. I'll do another few runs at the track and should end up with some consistent numbers.
Any other S55 Florida owners ever go to Moroso??

I am Rich that you found on dragtimes. I was running here in Vegas and SL55's were running 13.0, although it was cold as heck out and I was having a hard time getting a great launch. I ran with ESP on and powerbraked for the launch.
I only ran once with ESP off and my time was 2 tenths slower. This friday is Midnight Mayhem at the Strip in Vegas, although it has been raining so I am planning to go if the weather is good.
I was very frustrated with my times because I thought that our cars were supposed to run in the mid 12's as well.

i find it strange that you guys are only running in the mid 13's @ 103-105mph! there's about a 250# difference between the E55 and the S55. i would figure you guys we be in the mid 12's or even high 12's at around 112-115 range (close to sea level). 250# is worth about 3 tenths...there has to be something wrong!
if you get a chance, dyno your car to make sure nothing is wrong...you should get around 410-430 at the rear tire.
best of luck!

S55 should be in the mid 12s given good conditions. And leave ESP on, in a 55k car, I would also turn off ESP if I were running DRs and burned out first.
Stock? Because that's really really fast for a S500.
my S500 ran 14.0's at 97mph...

finally, glad to see someone else run their s55 at the track. stock i ran 13.0 @106 or 108 it was a while back. however, the track i ran at is at 1400ft above sea level. so that should be around 12.8 at least. keep us informed on how you do the next time you go to the track

i've never seen newton at the dragstrip here in houston...i've been going since 1988 when it opened. you make comments like "was jesus in the passenger seat?" what a smart ***! have you ever had your car to the dragstrip? what was your time? where's your time slip? i see you live in the houston area. You want to meet at the drag strip and race your car? let me know when?
about timeslips for my S500 i sold a year ago...i MIGHT be able to dig them up...but if you look at the post below, you'll see nobody had a problem with it then...

I ran probably ran 7 or 8 runs and that was the fastest. My worst was actually a 13.9. I believe that I did keep the timeslips.
Although, I really did not know what i was doing at the track and I believe that had a lot to do with my times. It was my first time ever dragging. My first run was a dud because I did not know to put the tires in between the lines and the official did not let me know either. I have always been a roadracer. I love open wheels.
I think that if I keep practicing that I should be able to hit the mid 12's in my stock s55.

Wow guys....isn't this supposed to be fun or something??
Second guessing people's times is a sure way to start an arguement.
Rich...let me know how it goes. Either we both have weak cars or that is just how these S55's run. It was amazing how close all our times were! IMHO, I don't think the slowish time was my driving as I have lots of experience racing Lightnings at the same track and my S55 had hooked up good on that particular run...although there is always room for improvement!
I'll try it next time with ESP on and the powerbraking. Wish me luck!

I NEVER questioned your integrity. I understand you probably took my comment the wrong way. I said "impossible" because I have never seen ANY stock 113 5.0L powered Mercedes run 14 or faster. Impossible literally? No, not at all. In fact, that was a compliment. Good job, that was an awesome time.
The jesus comment was just me throwing a bit of humor into my post. I do it in most of my posts. If that pissed you off, I'm sorry.
I appreciate your $0.02, thank you very much and I do hope you visit the forums more often.
I have never ran the S430 before, if that matters at all. I've only been to Houston Raceway in Baytown three times. Not exactly a short drive, so usually I have to set aside a free day to drive all the way there.
Run your S500? Why? The S500 is a faster vehicle, and I don't doubt you can drive better than me.
Meet? Sure thing, if you are willing to drop the attitute a bit.
And again, that's a really good run. Congrats.

1. If Jesus had been in the passenger seat, he would have run 16s at best, cuz Jesus is "one heavy dude."
2. Jesus is all around us. . . in the passenger seat, the rear seat, the trunk. . . everywhere. So your question is pointless.
3. Jesus only believes in "forced induction," so there is no way that he would be in a normally-aspirated vehicle.
BTW, thanks for regurgitating magazine numbers. You saved us all a trip to the ****tter.

Well, looks like it may be mod time here in the future to get her into the 12's!
