on a roll 65 is quicker than practically anything. Way quicker than a Gallardo on a freeway

Hmm, well, found an S65 road test...

...had to look to Europe to get it, but more on that in a moment.

I had, in the thread on the other forum, maintained that since the SL65 and the S65 are within a few hundred pounds of each other, w/same engine/driveline, etc., their acceleration should be roughly the same.

Here are the tests I produced for the SL65 from Euro mags:
SL65 AMG Test in ams 13/2004
Gewicht 2057 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,0 s
0 - 100 km/h 3,9 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,1 s
0 - 130 km/h 5,9 s
0 - 140 km/h 6,6 s
0 - 160 km/h 8,2 s
0 - 180 km/h 10,1 s
0 - 200 km/h 12,6 s
400 m, stehender Start 11,9 s (400m ~= 1/4 mile)

SL65 AMG Test in sport auto 09/2004
Gewicht 2049 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,3 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,3 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,6 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 7,1 s
0 - 160 km/h 8,8 s
0 - 180 km/h 10,5 s
0 - 200 km/h 13,1 s

SL65 AMG Supertest in sport auto 02/2005
Gewicht 2049 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,3 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,3 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,6 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 7,1 s
0 - 160 km/h 8,8 s
0 - 180 km/h 10,5 s
0 - 200 km/h 13,1 s

And last, but not least, Swedish Auto Motor und Sport's test of an S65 (and a Porsche GT3, and an Audi S4):
http://www.automotorsport.se/biltest...6/041606c.html
S65 911 S4
AMG GT3
50 km/h 1,93 2,03 2,1
100 km/h 4,28 5,00 6,06
150 km/h 7,91 9,33 12,31
200 km/h 13,22 15,68 21,89

Huh, whaddaya know? I was right... So, as I'd maintained, and as Mercedes states, the S65 and SL65 are pretty much equal.

Also found one more Gallardo test to add to the pile, from Autobild:
Autobild tests the Gallardo SE:
http://www.autobild.de/test/neuwagen...tikel_id=10611
0-100 km/h 4,2 s
0-130 km/h 6,6 s
0-160 km/h 8,9 s
0-200 km/h 13,6 s
Viertelmeile (1/4 mile)
0-402,34 m 12,4 s

Yeah, nice video....but for comparison sake or any sort of quantification of which is faster, the video was terrible. The guy in the Lambo could not drive.

Eitherway, nice video just to see some nice cars.

Crystal Cove, this Saturday, 11 AM. Bring the heat.

Don't be fooled by the SL600 in my signature, it's retired-- but my '05 CL65 will eat your Lambo alive...

That's what I spent several posts trying to get across to mr. lambo, but Physics doesn't apply in his world.

As the driver of the Gallardo in the above video, and an 06 S65 owner (the one that ran 11.29 @ 123MPH) I can say without a doubt the S65 is way faster in a straight line, and feels comparable in stopping power, but the gallardo is way more fun to drive like a mad man.

Watch the video again. I launched right on time, the difference was the SL65's 1.6 60' time vs the Gallardo's 1.9 or so, 60"

The reason I came so close to the center was because I was watching the tach to make sure I didn't short shift the car.
