Tire Pressure

For those of you with 20" wheels (stock preferably), what pressures are you running ? On my old E55 with 18" I ran 42 F and 36 R.

Thanks

I asked the same thing here... No one seems to respond... I figured it would be a hot topic, cause a lot of people have bent rims.. Plus the ride is a factor.

Go with the pressure on the placard on on the door.

Saw your other thread BTW. I am about to trade my E55 for the S63 as well. Tough for me to give up the E55 though.

Got an email from Luke @ Tirerack - His recommendation is 44 Front and 40 Rear. Just did that and set it in the TPMS - we'll see. He was right on for my E55.

The new pressures seem to run very well. I now have 500 mileds on her - after playing around yesterday, I'm so impressed as to how much better she handles than the E - extremely pleasantly surprised.

wow really?

what kind of tires are you running and what is the stated max psi?

i'm curious to know why more in the front?

i had after market wheels/tires and use to run them at 34 in the front and 36 in the rear cold.
when hot they got up to 38-39/ 40-41 in the rear.

It came with Conti's. The placard is 40/40 or 48/48 for speeds > 100. Luke had suggested that difference to combat understeer. I used his suggestions on my E55 and was pleased so I went with it again. Not being any sort of expert and not tracking the car I just went with his advice.

question: Like NY the potholes in LA are just hideous, I hit 2 massive ones today alone and may have already cracked one of my rims. I cracked 2 rims on my cls in 18 months and one on my E55 (glad my dealer has a heart and paid for one of them and cut me a huge break on the other 2, but still wasn't cheap). I didn't even know i was riding on a craked rim one of the times it happened. what is the best tire pressure to run at to avoid this problem? If i run with more pressure does that make the impact on the wheels even harder. I spent 15 mins cursing the city of LA to myself while driving around today. This is becoming a major issue to me and I know that i won't get any deals on a new rim if i bust one of these amg package 20's up. what the hell is a guy to do???

Noxxin I feel for you - I can't tell you the number of rims/ and tires I've been thru - the last was a front PS2 on the E55 and the same day I had it changed guess what another pothole.

I'd send luke an email directly - he seems to respond that way, I'm sure he has advice.

Most dealers sell rim and tire insurance.

It is well worth the money.
