Had the opportunity to drive a Flying Spur today and was damn impressed with it. For about the same MSRP as an S65, it is sure worth considering. To most people an S65 looks like an S550, with the AMG version selling for twice the money; obviously the similarity between the two ends at their looks.

I know this is an MB fourm, but was wondering if anyone has a Flying Spur in their stable that they could comment on vs. the S65.

Thanks.

I had a flying spur and I hated it. Car broke down like crazy. Constantly in the shop. I had it for about 6 months drove it all of 1500 miles due to it being in the shop most of the time. My S65 is much better.

Bullseye!

I never thought that would be a disadvantage. Isn't it just priceless? The frozen, shocked, painful and horrified face-impression of all the sport-car "snobs" in their tin-cans who were just smoked by a living-room on wheels? Yes, so far, I can only imagine how good it feels. But that will change some day - when I get my own 65!

Crazy depreciation. Even if you are a fully certified baller, this shows it's just smart to buy used!!

Oh, absolutely. Get an 07, switch the wheels and it looks like the 09. Two months ago, I thought I might be lucky and get a 2007 S65 for $85K by the end of next year. I also thought about a 2005 CL65 or 2006 S65/CL65 but if this depreciation continues over the next year (which it probably will), it might not be worth it.

Right now, the price-difference between a 2006 and 2007 is at about $50k ($50K compared to $100K). I bet it will be MUCH less a year from now. In addition, the 06 will likely be out of warranty and technically, the 07 has much more to offer. So let's see what is going to happen - maybe the 07 will be in the 60s a year from now. I mean, who knows?

Flying Spur, to me, is much superior in the inside, because it captures that British Old-World feel without overloading you with useless technology (Though I wish it had Distronic). However, the performance is nothing compared to the S65, even though it moves itself pretty well.

Thanks for the info and comments. The Spur I looked at was Cypress with Portland interior. I have to hand it to Bentley, they have a thousand and one colors available, and the car was absolutely beautiful. However, I think I'll stick with a "pre-owned" S65 or S63 for the next purchase. I'm on my 9th MB now and have been really pleased with all of them. In addition, I'm over 2 hours away from the nearest Bentley dealer and it sounds like I'd be visiting it a lot.

^ seeing as new 08 S63's were selling in the range of $30k off sticker, I'd expect at least 40k off original sticker depending on miles

Wonder how much mint low-mileage '07 S65 are going for... these numbers are tempting. Agree that used is the way to go for people like myself that do not mind low mileage clean examples. Let someone take that depreciation hit, esp for cars over $100k.

I feel as if the market has picked up for these cars (Highline Autos) and the deals we were seeing at the end of the year are not that great anymore becuase prices are stabilizing

Id approximate these cars to be going for around $98-$105K at auction -- And they are very hard to find as I remember I saw some auction data that showed 5 sold in 3 months (S65)

S55 (05), GL450 (07)
I think it is a matter of months before S65 and S63 prices will head further south as the facelift arrives in the summer.
Yesterday I bid for a 08 S65 on ebay. Sold for 73K with 70K miles on it with all the options (a lot of miles I know, but some say the V12 will never break).

I wanted to get an S65 instead of my SL55, but I deemed it unfeasible because the market was showing $92-93K at auction (Remember the manheim prices thread) and did not go down from there.

However, there is a BiN on eBay for a Silver/Blk S65 w/26K miles for $96K, which seems fair, but I know these cars were going for $92K at auction with 12k miles, which makes me think that the car market has at least stabilized. Where are you seeing other prices? I know it was damn hard to find one of those cars coming up at auction, or in fact to find one of those cars anywhere at a reasonable price.

You guys have no idea how hard it is to buy one of these right now at auctions for a good price. The pre-owned market is in such high demand right now, that you are having to pay a premium. Add to that the cost of certifying one of these and it puts you right back upwards of $100k.

That might be true - however, once the dealer has it on his lot, it sits and sits and sits...

I have a constant eye on autotrader and cars.com and the cars listed there have been offered for months now AND have been reduced several times.

It's true that the pre-owned market is hot right now - but I'm not sure that applies to cars selling (or not selling) around $100K.
