opinions wanted for new tires - S65

Hi,

I have 2007 S65 with 12,000 miles and the Pirelli PZero are getting hard and slick.

Im looking for a tire that has the best ride quality. I realize thats a tall order for a 20 inch wheel but I would rather deal with the traction light then getting beat up on rough streets.

Im considering the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and expecting 8k at least of use for the 1,800 installed quote.
I was also considering the Yokohama S.drive since I can get theses installed for 880.00

Does anyone have any experience/opinions with Yokohama S.drive ?

Like I said before I want ride quality so cost is not important but if Im going to buy tires every 6-8k and the ride quality is similar than I was thinking of trying something less expensive than the Michelins..., thanks

All of your expectations kind of depend on how you drive. I love the PS2s, but they do get expensive if you shred rears twice a year. I have no experience with any Yokohamas besides on a G500, and they got very noisey after 20000 miles, but that is an entirely different animal. I guess I would recommend getting the Yokos first since they are cheaper and if you aren't satisfied, shred them then move on to the next step up. $900 for a set of tires is a pretty cheap investment in your car if you are happy with them, if not, you didn't spend $1800 like you would for OEM rubber so you have plenty of more reasonable choices from there. I would think the Continental Sport Maxx would be a good match for the S65, as would the Bridgestone RE050, also, for much less than the Pirelli tires that are OEM, not to mention the PS2. Don't forget to tell us how they do!

I just put the S Drives on my 2006 S65 (19" wheels) after 2 sets of PS2's. The PS2's are the best tire for straight line traction and 10/10th"s cornering. I have had three sets of PS2's (one on my SL600) and I have the same complaint with all three sets. They were great for about 5k miles then they became quite noisy and harsh. I took off all the sets early because of the deteriorating NVH with increased mileage. Through the first 1500 miles I find the S Drives have really transformed the car. Far quieter and smoother. The straight line traction is 90 to 95% of the Michelins. Cornering seems ok but I have not really pushed it yet.

2018 S63, lowered
I've been using the PS2's and have the same complaint as mentioned above.....I was only getting 4-6k miles out of the rears. I'm on my 4th set of rears now and have finally decided to go with something a little more economical.....I just bought a set of the Michelin PS All Season Plus. My local Disount Tire swears by them, they had an acceptable load and speed rating, and have a 500 treadwear rating.

I know I'm sacrificing a little traction here....and probably some ride comfort as well, but the 1k trip to Discount Tire every 6 weeks was outta control. I'm having the tires installed this week- I'll report back on my thoughts. Meantime, just be sure the load rating on the tires you're looking at will support the car......I can't imagine you have a whole lot of choices in a 20" tire with the required load rating?

Post Yokohama's are great

I've been using Yokohama Advan's on my CL 550.. so it has the 275/40/19's on the rears and 255/40/19's on the fronts.... they seem to be lasting alot longer than the michelin's and have much better wet weather ability and handle almost exactly the same... also they are half the price...

I had the Conti's on the car when delivered - I changed them for PS2's - but here in the NYC area I ended up with sidewall bubles on both Fronts so I changed them all for Yoko Advan's and so far (only 1K miles) have been extremely happy - the performance wet is unbelievable.
I had also had the sidewall bubbles with the PS2's on my E55.

You wouldn't regret if you go with the S-drive . cheaper and as good as PS2 AND MICHELIN PILOT SPORTS . and this is coming from a Michelin fanatic here .

I use PS2s on my SL55, and many of our clients with S55/65 are doing the same, and enjoying them.

I installed the pilot sports on my CL. Its a very good tire but it can be damaged very easily. I have two bumps on my front passenger tire in the first few months. The continentals seemed to hold up better against pot holes, however the Michelins have a much better ride/traction.

I like the Nitto invos but also need the traction they provide. They are great road tire for the money but give a little in the corners.

Im going to put tires on no later than next weekend. There just isnt allot of feedback out there on the 20in tire for the V12 biturbo. I dont think Im going to take the chance on the S.Drives they just dont have the best reviews.

It looks like Pilot Sport PS2 or Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position because they both have better reviews than the OEM PZero. Anyone else have any feedback on the Nitto Invo ? They might be an option.

Any other recommendations ?
