drag radials
I see mickey thompson also makes an 18x35x305 drag radial. Anyone ever try one of these on a 10.5 inch 18 and see if it fits a w220? Also, has anyone found an 18" replica x 10 or 10.5 that fits our cars? Ideally, I would like it to look like the wheels were stock at first glance. It doesn't have to be gray, I'll get it powdercoated to match the fronts...

I don't usually reply to myself... I'm used to the E211 subsection where every question is met with numerous answers. The update: just ordered some 18x9.5 knockoffs and I'm planning on powdercoating to match my fronts and then installing Nitto's new nt05r 285x40x18 in drag radials. If I cut some decent 60 fts I'll let you know in the spring

I don't think too many W220s are running drag radials. I was thinking of doing something similar with my CL65 by getting knockoffs and color matching to the front ones. I couldn't find 9.5" wheels at the time. Just a heads up, the 285/40/18's are slightly taller than the stock set up (1.5%). It isn't a huge difference, but your speedo might read a little slow.

I will post pics of the rims when I get them powdercoated and installed. I'm thinking two to three weeks. Rims shipping from the west coast (arriving 19th), then to the blaster, then to the powdercoat guy. The thing is in NH I'm not racing till at least April, so I'm not in too much of a hurry!

something to consider is the weight of the knockoff rims. most cheap wheels weigh in at 25 lbs. add 29 lbs for the mt and your looking at 54 lbs per side. heres another way to go. clk alloy rims in 16" weigh 13 lbs. hoosier drag radials wiegh 22 lbs thats 35 lbs per side! a reduction 19 lbs of rotational mass. thats huge! the dr's can be had in a 255/50-16 and air pressure dropped to 18 lbs. creating a huge sidewall for launches

Not only do you have clear the brake caliper...there is a metal dust shield that needs to be cleared as well. You can take the dust shield off but doing it the "right way" requires taking the whole brake assembly off first. Depending on the offset...some 18" wheels will not clear the brake dust shield...so anything smaller will definitely not clear it.

Does anyone know the bolt pattern dimensions? 5 by what? I was going to see if there are other wheel options just for the track. My search for 18X 9.5 inch wheels with the S65 offset is not going to well.

I use mickey thompson 265/40-18's and this is plently of tire if the track is prepped well. I break plenty of rear end parts so I don't think that the wider 305's are necessary. You will have some rubbing issues if you try to get fancy with the sizes.

update:
After being unable to find any 60et offset 18x9.5's, I am having CWWheel make me two 18x9.5 wheels with a 55et offset, I'm hoping that will allow me to run 285 DR's, but we'll see when the rims get here. Should be two weeks or so for delivery, and I will post results, be they positive or negative.
