Talking I went to the track yesterday, can you help me analyze my ¼ mile results?

First – this thing is a monster. I did a total of 5 runs, three of which were with my 200 lb friend in the car. And yet, I had my best time with him in the vehicle and every time the car ran at least 118 mph and didn’t seem to notice the extra weight. I had my laptop and other stuff in the trunk so I didn’t go out of my way to lower the weight. I also have 4 place seating which I am sure weights a few extra pounds.

So here are the results. Please let me know what you think and what I did wrong (I was really hoping to break 11s).

Set up on the first 4 runs was basically comfort mode, rear tires at about 35 psi., transmission in sport. Last run I had mixed 2.5 gallons of 100 octane (was almost out of gas) with probably about 1 gallon of 93. I had the car raised as high as it would go and lowered the pressure to about 33 psi in the rear. Notice my speed was significantly higher than before but not my best time – not sure if it had something to do with the set up because I changed too many things at once.

Run 1 (with a passenger):

60’ = 1.952
330 = 5.235
1000 = 10.228
¼ = 12.161
MPH = 118.46

Run 2 (with a passenger):

60’ = 2.129
330 = 5.486
1000 = 10.505
¼ = 12.439
MPH = 118.18

Run 3: (lost the time slip)

Run 4 (alone):

60’ = 2.286
330 = no data
1000 = 10.714
¼ = 12.601
MPH = 118.51

Run 5 (alone) (notice the trap speed):

60’ = 2.154
330 = 5.577
1000 = 10.498
¼ = 12.380
MPH = 121.70

First thing that jumps out at me is the pretty substantial difference in 60' times between your best run (1st) and your best mph run (last).

I see a difference of over 2 tenths, which can easily translate into 4 tenths at the big end...the extra 3 mph won't make up for the worst 60'. As you may or may not know the entire race (for the most part) is decided in the first 60'. You can see this effect already in your 330' times...the 2 tenths already moved to a 3 tenth difference.

If you managed another 1.9x 60' - I'm confident that would've been an 11sec run. On the bright side, the mph is suggest solid hp

Swapping tires is the only real way to get a decent short time.

2006 S65
More Questions

Great runs, BVLDARI!

I have had the hardest time getting below 12.4 seconds in my 2006 S65. Some questions:
1. What year is your car?
2. Is it all stock?
3. What tires are you using?
4. How do you launch (traction on or off, do you do a burnout, how much wheel spin at launch if any)?
I consistently trap between 116 and 118, but would like to get into the 11's at least once.

I hope you didn't have the tranny mode in "c". If you did then you were launching in 2nd gear! Always have the tranny in Sport "S" mode. Your 60' time on your first run was reasonable with that 1.94. You were getting a little to eager with street tires and spinning some with the 2.28 60' and the 2.15 60'. Try to launch more like you did with the 1.94 and you will be much better. Don't try to get fancy and shift yourself either. Let the car shift itself as it does a much better job than you can. I just got a 2006 S65 yesterday and will take it to the track soon. My 2003 S600 ran 11.97@114.7 bone stock with drag radials. My best 60' bone stock was 1.74. That S65 definitely has high 11's in it with a decent 60' and everything in the correct mode. Have FUN!

When you are measuring tenths of a second it so important how you get away. Never been on a drag strip so I wouldn't have a clue.
I bet a professional compared with me could mean over a second difference.

Great runs. Your trap speed is higher on the last run b/c it looks like you spun a little out of the hole. The first run is lower, but so is your ET, which means you hooked better. Ive never driven one of these at the track, but with the power they put down, you really could use some drag radials on the back. You could also try running in sport mode, then if you're really feeling froggy, you could put it in "dyno" mode.

1. 2006
2. stock except it is lowered via the computer
3. Michelin PS2 in the rear, PS1 in the front.
4. first four runs I had traction on, no burnouts of any sort, drove around the water, suspension in comfort, transmission in sport (auto mode), front tires at factory recommended 38 psi, rears at about 35. last run I had traction on, did a very short 1 second burnout outside the water, transmission in sport (auto mode), front tires the same, rear tires down to 33 psi, suspension raised as high as it will go. Also had 100 octane gas cuz I was running out of gas so put about 2.5 gallons in there mixed with probably about 1 gallon left.

I really don’t know how I launched. I know the first run I was nervous. The rest I was consciously trying to roll on the throttle but was obviously unsuccessful.

See my previous post for some more details but I had the transmission in Sport every time. You are right, I must have been getting eager although I was doing everything I could to “control” myself. I have no idea how I launched the first time – all I remember was being nervous.

I really am not interested in putting drag tires on the car. I am interested in seeing what it will do stock and I am pretty sure I can get her to do 11’s if I can figure out how to get her rolling

Go around the water box and back up a little if there is room at your track. Do a little burnout to "clean off" the tires. I would try 25psi in the tires to increase the footprint. 25psi is not too low and will not damage the tires. You may get an low psi warning...just ignore it. Before you launch, preload the car slightly with your foot on the brake and the rpms at about 1k-1.2k. Launch at about 1/3-1/2 throttle then squeeze the throttle to wide open just after the car hooks. If you do this too quickly, it will spin the tires...too slow and you will waste time. You will waste more time spinning the tires. Find the right transition to make this happen and you will get you best e.t. Have fun! 11's are yours!

Of course leave your front tires at stock psi for less rolling resistance. Just the rears to 25psi. I may run mine with stock tires soon to check out the traction with these ps2s.
