S55 - rev limit on warmup?

I took a look at a 2003 S55 today. It was behind a billion other cars on the lot and I only had 20 minutes - so I couldn't drive it. I started it and let it idle for 3-5 minutes, then dipped into the throttle a bit just to get a feeling for the sound. The engine wouldn't rev past 4k. I'm guessing there is a rev limiter that keeps things low until the engine reaches a certain temp - can anyone verify?

BTW, 1k-4k sounded very nice.

Usually when I rev mine when it's on park, and I try to hit the higher revs, the car shakes. I did not look to see if it's at 4k though.

Yup it has a limiter when in Park. Put your foot on the brake and put it in Neutral then it should rev much higher.

Is it bad for the engine to rev it in neutral or park?

Only if you fail to intimidate another driver.

(seriously, it's fine but I wouldn't do if often and never when the engine is cold)

They won't rev up in neutral or park no matter how warm the motor. It's normal.

I do stand corrected. You can only rev the 55 motor past 4k if you are in neutral and rolling along. I confirmed it myself today.
