the 65 is going to have more power and I'm always hesitant to buy anything the first year out. Plus the money saved can go straight to modding it!!!! If it was me - 65 all the way.

S65 all the way. You will save a lot a money plus S class body style is changing in 2014, you will take a huge hit buying 2011 when 2014 is out inthe summer of 2013.

The new twin turbo 5.5 engine with 536 to 571 hp makes the 2011 S63 the hands down pick. It should overcome the prior 6.2 low end torque shortcomings while still providing great looks and sound. Although the S65 may be a "better buy" after the new car depreciation hit, the newer S63 has the full factory warranty in effect - not a bad item on an AMG.

I would definitely go for the 09 s65, for what you're getting new/used there is no comparison between the two engines.

HANDS DOWN 65 engine will be better in every way!

The warranty would be a bonus for the 2009 but regardless I would pick the 2009 s65.

Good luck!

+1.
Aproximately 200lbs less weight over front wheels does wonders for handling and agility while equalizes the straight line performance with the S65.
Fewer stops at gas stations make life a little bit easier and 7 speed tranny is no brainer vs the old 5speed.
A clean, low miles '09 S65 still costs about $140k+ with warranty that has to be extended while S63 is a virgin for you to deflower....

I have similar dilemma although I was considering 2011 S65 (roughly 20hp more vs 2010) vs S63 with Designo interior and CF package.
In the end decided to go for the new engine since the car is significantly lighter where it matters, has superior transmission and does not have to have the silly moon roof and tvs in the back that I would never use anyway.
Performance package and lower weight will make it equal to S65 in straight line and much better in the twisties.
If however, they did to S65 what they should have done, like pump it up to somewhere closer to 700hp,I would go for it in a flash.

I think the V12 would be smoother, and maybe marginally quicker.
What about a CTS?

Hey Vic, I'm still on the fence between the 997TT/ ZR1... also
considering a TTG at the same time...

S63/S65 is going to replace a wifey's Cayenne GTS.
Also considered a Panamera turbo, but the interior/trunk space
was just too small. But man is it fast!!! Pan turbo felt nothing
like any 4 door sport sedan I've driven to date.

Easily the 2011 S63. With about 563hp in U.S. trim with the performance pack it will humiliate the S65 in most areas. Flat out on a straight road the S65 won't be leaving it and the S63 will handle better and will be brand new. S63 has the better gearbox also, the MCT from the E/SL63 models. The S65's old 5-speeder is an antique now. The only advantage the S65 has is in name only and the smoothness of a V12 compared to a V8.

Something on 4 wheels..
S65 all the way! Let others take the depreciation-hit. When going pre-owned, you can switch cars more frequently without being haunted by negative equity. So you don't need a 4 year warranty in the first place (although you can extend the S65's warranty as well) because you can switch cars after 2 years (and take the S63 if you want..).

I'll be getting a 2009 S65 in about 18 months myself at a fraction of the new MSRP.

Go drive an 07 or newer S65 - that will end your thoughts about the V8 car...

S65.

The S65 will still kill the 2011 S63 in a straight line, IMO.

Not to mention, a much nicer interior.

Interior can be easily matched (and bettered) by Designo.
S65 faster then new S63?
How do you know?Based on numbers?
Highly questionable considering very small difference in HP and torque,300lbs total lower weight of the S63 and much quicker and more efficient (significantly lower power loss) transmission.
Only time will show, making definite predictions are baseless at the moment.
