Dead Battery 2005 s55 AMG

I would like to ask for some help here as the dealer was unable to assist me with this simple question.

My battery is dead.

All electronics are off. I am able to access the truck via the attached key to the remote. The dealer said my battery was in the trunk. I cannot seem to locate it there.

If it is in the truck, how do I get to it? If it is under the hood, how do I release the front hood? Is it worth jumping or should I just go buy a new battery. I have 50K miles The dealer is selling one for $280. Gulp!

Would AAA know how to jump the vehicle?

Please help,
Britt

It should be on the passenger side of the trunk under a cover, just look and feel until you find the cover.

Do not buy a battery from the dealer, or at least *that* dealer.

When you have completed your service/repair, report the dealer to MBUSA for gross incompetence.

Not sure what horrible thing this dealer has done for "Royals55" to avoid them, they told him the battery is in the trunk.

I recommend you call MB Roadside, they will come to you and jump start your car at no charge. If the battery is weak or needs replacement, you can get it from an MB dealer or other places. The MB battery is a gel unit which handles vibration better than lead/acid units from Sears and other places but it is about 80% more expensive.

Good luck!

The dealer was correct about it being in the trunk passenger side, if that is where it is. All I saw was the spare tire. I will have to take another look. Might be under the tire. I have two vehicles so this is not an emergency but I do need to get power back into my car. A jump is a good place to start. I will shop around for a new battery.

Any batteries in particular I should be looking at?

If you have a 2005 S55, the battery is in the trunk, right side, lift the carpeted area(to the right of the spare tire) to access the battery. The battery is NOT under the spare tire, but to the right of it. Look at your owners manual for better directions.

As stated before, the MB Gel battery costs about $340 but many other brands will work as well at a lower cost.

i took that to mean all they were willing/able to do was say "it's in the trunk"

Well, "RoyalS55" is also asking how to release the hood. Even if he/she finds the battery in the trunk, not sure how he/she is going to jump start it, this is why I recommended calling MB Roadside. There is so much a dealer can help with over the phone.......

You can buy factory MB battery (AGM type, Group 49) from parts.com for $195. There is a 13mm bold that holds the battery once you remove the cover. Also you need to remove some components for power trunk (it's under the sponge) to get to the 13mm bolt. Very easy todo.

Thanks for the help guys. I went and purchased AAA for $68. Called them the next day for a jump. The s55 jumped without hesitation and the battery was in the trunk, hidden beneath a carpeted grey flat piece. So far the vehicle has held the jump and I still have another 3 AAA uses, so if the battery dies, I can get the jump.

If the battery dies again, I will go get a new one.

Thanks for the assistance. I do appreciate it.

It could also be your alternator that is no longer functioning properly and the battery may be losing its charge, I had to change my alternator due to this - the battery was completely drained, but was still fine with a new alternator.

I have a feeling my alternator is *dying* haha
I had issues starting my car how it takes several tries in-order to have a cold-start.
after the battery was replaced the start-up is still iffy... haha

You can always call MB for jump. Phone number under the driver sun visor when you open up your mirror. Save AAA for tow. It's free for life (MB roadside)

You may also want to consider C-tek 7200 US model to recondition battery. This is the same company that MB use for their charger except MB use model 3300 and does not have battery reconditon function.

Accidentally left the door cracked, battery dies again. Was able to jump it, but 10 hrs later the battery did not have a sufficeint charge to turn over the engine. Looks like it is time for a new one. Will MB Roadside install a new battery were I to have one available for them?

Thanks guys,
Britt
