Fast cars in general....
Consume 1qt. of oil every 1K mile?

So far, I've put about 2K miles and it looks the motor is consuming 1qt of oil in every 1K mi.
I know the 65 motors consume oil, but I don't think it consumed this much. Is this normal??
BTW, the typical MB dealer says it's perfectly a 'normal'

All manufacturers say 1 qt of oil per 1K mile in normal. I would check for leaks under the car and around the gaskets to identify the source, otherwise it is just burning the oil along with fuel. Check for black smoke on start up or heavy acceleration, etc.

No leaks under the car and around the gaskets.
No noticeable amount of black smoke on start up or under full throttle.

oil consumption will be a normal thing for the that engine for it's entire life, for the first 5000mi expect the oil consumption to be as high as that, it will drop off after the piston rings bed in fully. Just don't baby it while it's new, it will just take longer to bed in.

I would say 1 qt every 2K miles was the "norm" for my CL65. I also used to do my oil changes every 5K miles since I had the engine tuned.

i've filled my car up with a total of three QT. i've checked the dip stick the light came on for the first two but i figured i'd check it myself the last time around.

i have a total of 7,200 miles. so 7200/3 = 2400 miles.. sounds about right. my m3 burns so much oil :/ and at $13.50 a quart it gets annoying.

My S65 uses about 1qt for 2K miles. My previous '03 S600 hardly used any oil in comparison. Maybe 1qt per 5K miles.

I have to agree with everyone else here, I am looking at about 1qt for every 1,500 miles or so.

That possibly wont be the best thing to do in my opinion, you should use the recommended grade of oil. In my 2004 S55k its 0w40. I always use that.

But i think my average oil consumption is about 1200 miles to 1 litre. I spoke to my indie who said "considering its a big V8 that has a supercharger fitted to it, 1 litre per 1000 miles is pretty normal so dont worry about it".

Iv pretty much accepted it as that and have not questioned it again, on the plus side iv also come to realise that every time i top up with that 1 litre of oil when the car tells me to, the distance between the next service goes up a little bit.

The last time i had 4,700 miles till the next service, message came up on dash telling me to add 1 litre of oil, the next time i checked the service indicator after the top up it had gone up to 5,200 miles till next service.

One uses oil, one doesn't

My 04 S600 with 30K miles doesn't seem to ever need oil added between oil changes, on the other hand, my 04 CL600 with 60K miles, needs 1 qt. every 1000 miles normally. The dealer stated it was in the "normal" range of oil consumption for the V12's.
