03 S55 vibration
I own a 2003 S 55. I have noticed a little vibration upon gear shifting especially earlier in the mornings or the first time the car accelerates. I don't notice it at all once the car has shifted gears. It is not as bad if I'm in the car for 30 minutes or so, or after I have gone through several shift changes. I do have 20's on the car; not sure if this matters. I have read about engine mount issues and things that you just have to live with with these cars. I have heard this is normal in high-performance cars. Anyone else with this issue?

Betewwn about 1000 and 1400 rpm? There is a TSB out on the ABC pump pulsation dampner. It is a quick and easy fix and eliminates the moan / vibration. The dampner hangs off of two lines on the passenger side of the tranny (a balck ball looking thingy). Its lines run across the tranny. When they go bad it give exactly the symptoms you describe.

I think he said the vibration occurs when shifting, so tires or ABC damper might not be the issue, most likely transmission related. Have you changed the tranny fluid at all, this being a sealed system and all that?

Granted, it could also of course be engine mounts or tranny mount or tranny in need of service. It's just that the TSB on the pulsation dampner describes exactly what I had and it sounded similar to his post. More present when cold and goes away after shift (because you are now above the rpm band where it is most prevalent). Just something to check IN ADDITION to the mounts and tranny fluid / service. If you have access to a rack that raises the car via the jacking points disable the traction control and have a buddy rev it gently once up with the belly pans off. if its mounts you will see the movement, if its the pulsation dampner you can feel and hear it easily. Again, its the black ball rubbery thingy hanging just to the drivers side of the tranny.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am taking to an independent MB,BMW,VOLVO mechanic to have them look at. I did find out that the engine mounts were replaced about 11,000 miles ago at a MB Dealer. Does anyone know if this should be warrantied? Car now has 78,300 miles.
