Speeding ticket and speedometer calibration

I got popped with a 20 over mph ticket coming down a mountain ... Gravity took my 5000lb+ car over and a POS cop got me coming down the mountain... I never had the pedal on the gas...

Anyways I am going to slap some 275-50-20s on to get my speedo to under report by 11%.

Does anyone know if these cars use some crazy gadgetry or gps to auto correct the true speed reported on the speedo?

In the COMAND menu under Navigation you can change tire size, but that only changes number of miles traveled for navigation reasons and does not change your speedometer. I think if you set the cruise control to your desired speed, it might be a better way to go.

Were you full of people/gear or were you driving something bigger than the E?

Dealer can digitally reset the speedo parameters if you're friendly with them

I had 3 people in my W211 S65. Weights 6000 lbs with 3 folks and a full tank. And has 700hp and 900 tq but the fact is I crested the mountain at 65mph hit 90 (again no gas for 1 mile!) shaved it down to 75 and got popped. Elevation change was about 1000 feet over 3/4-1 mile.

If you have driven a S65 it feels like you are doing 40mph when you are doing 70mph... The double pane glass windows keeps road noise to near zero...Totally different than the feel of an E55. Sucks for speeding.

The 65's are very good high speed cruisers. Does not help you though in this case. I guess just keep an eye on the speed. It's so easy to get near 100 without much effort or drama in these cars!

Ive never seen a W211 S65 so that alone is interesting. But I know in our W220 S65 we got pulled over going 78mph in a 55mph zone. But for some reason the cop gave us a warning and send us on our way. Must be the fact that Im good looking or maybe the fact that my wife is a "POS Cop". but either way we havent received any speeding tickets in the last 10 years. Good Luck!

I agree with 06E55. Larger rims arent gonna make it much harder to creep above extra-legal speeds in these cars, even if they do throw the speedo off by 10%. Either keep a better eye on the speedo or just try to use cruise control as much as possible when on a highway.

High dollar AMG S-class' are probably the last cars you wanna be pulled over in. Cop probably took one look at your car, then felt absolutely no remorse slapping you with a 4 point speeding ticket.
