transmission problem??

Drove the s55 for the first time in about two months and I noticed it was a little slow goiing between gears before, but no other issues. Well i was on the highway hiit the gas and it just reved up. It wouldnt take a gear until i slowed to about 30 then it popped back in. But once i was getting home it did iit again but this time it was liike half iin half out of gear it was moving but the revs were not synched with the speed. After getting home ii shut iit down and started iit back up and it moved fine for a few shifts then popped back into nothiing... my initial thought is that its low on trans fluid. But after getting that iidea i found out you cant check the fluid... any ideas what i could do?

Well you have two options from the way I see it. Get it to the dealer or Indy to check your Trans fluid level or do it yourself. I opted to do it myself. You can buy the transmission tool on ebay for about $20 to check the level. I believe it is called a 622.4 but can't remember exactly right now.
But if you bring it in for service I would be worried about driving it as it sits now low fluid can be a killer. Good luck.

Get under the car and remove the covers and look for leaks..if there are no leaks, your fluid could be OK. I also have a generic AT dipstick but you will need to know what level it should be anyway, let me know if you need the level, as I marked mine whle it was correct with paint The bad news is if you cant find a leak, your trany is about to go. How many miles on your car?

I think you said earlier that it had not been driven in two months....your AT valve body migh be clogged up. Have you ever changed the AT fluid?
If you dont find a leak, check the fluid color and consider having the dealer do a flush...it will probably cost you $500 but may save/postpone a tranny rebuild.
I drive mine at least weekly to avoid this issue.

If it hasnt been changed on an '03 I will 100% guarantee you that it is leaking. My '05 was leaking at 52K miles and never left a single warning drop on the garage floor.
Mike

Sorry, I meant '04

Hi Mike, any chance you can share a pic of the dipstick for the Tranny on the S55 you used to get the right level for the fluid? I have the dipstick but unsure whats the proper level it should be at

Thanks Mike , I had purchased the Tranny dipstick long ago when I had an E class, so its the same one for our S55's 5 speed with the same part#.

I appreciate you taking the time out to snap a pic of it. Do you still have the marker on the dipstick where it should be at approximately for proper level of the fluid?

My S55 was cold and the dipstick bottoms out and the fluid is just barely on the stick...just below the 25 degree mark...like 1/2 inch on the stick. Engine cold and running...prior to startup it was above the 80 degrees mark on the stick.
