S65 "Simple Software upgrade"

I have the 06 S65 AMG. Browsing around, wikipredia says "a simple software upgrade pushes the motor to a staggering 740 hp and well over 850 ft/lbs tq". I called my local MB dealer to ask if this was true, and if so, what is the cost of "simple software". They were not very versed in S65's and had to get back to me.

Anyone hear of this? Will it cause havoc with what is already a beautiful car?

thx

Im pretty sure they are referring to an aftermarket tuner and yes, it is possible. Some dealerships actually authorized to upload the Rentech software for your ECU. Ask around.

There's a reintech in New Jersey and I ask them for my S55 2004 and they told me around $ 4.000

It is safe as long as a reputable tuner performs the "simple software upgrade". It makes a huge difference with no trade offs. I went with Renntech and am very pleased with the results. The V-12 BiTurbo cars benefit most from a tune as "600" series cars respond in a similar fashion. You won't believe that such a simple mod could help so much.

'94 SL600,'05 SL600,'06 S65,'07 E63,'14 E63S,'09SL600 all sold, ‘15 S65,‘18 E63S,'17 SL65, '17S65Cab
I have a 91 octane tune from Eurocharged on my S65 and one of the SL600's. I would guess this tune adds about 10 to 15% to the peak numbers but significantly improve the torque numbers starting below 2000 RPM. As stated above these cars really come alive with these simple re-flashes. The highway fuel mileage improved on both as well; about 3 mpg on the 65 and about 1 mpg on the 600. So far no downside to the re-flash.

caveat emptor:

a flash will stress already high stressed coils and very quickly exploit any weaknesses

they're going to fail anyway, just a matter of when - just be aware that the flash could accelerate that timeframe

worth every red cent, regardless

We can provide our 65 tune which adds around 90hp 120tq with a "Simple Flash" Priced with ECU/TCU at $1290.

Let me know if we can help!

Thanks
Aleks

Yes and no, The updated part numbers "seem" to be more reliable. I've been tuned for almost 5 years and have had no issues with the new pn coils. I've removed my engine cover as i "believe" that heat is a factor as well.

Speedriven tune highly recommended You won't find better customer service and support anywhere else

...oh, I was referring to original coils / coils with miles and the tune quickly nuking 'those'... not new coils, they should last awhile with/without tune

this is not unique to these cars, chipping any boosted car will reveal other issues 'upstream' - typically ignition / fuel / boost(i.e. hose) related...

OK, so what's the verdict here? Eurocharged or Speedriven? Eurocharged has a 172mm pulley, tune and cooling package. Most of us know our crank pulleys (like any s/c pulley) should be replaced at about 80k miles, and the Johnson I/C 30 (or whatever) pump is likely better than OEM. So what do experienced users say about the two of them?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm pulling the trigger on one of them for my '06 S55 soon.

Best,

maw
