looking for an s55

I found this s55 on CL and I was looking for some opinions. I've never owned an S class. He claims it got swiped on the passenger side and both doors needed to be replaced. He also stated that the suspension got serviced 5-6 months ago. I'm aware a resell would be near impossible.

S55 AMG
IMHO, to much for a 02........you can get a decent 03 (which is supercharged) for a little more. Spend the money for an 03-06 year range. You won't be happy if you don't. I have an 03 S55, and I like it. Comfort and speed.

He's right an 02 S55 is not much different from a S 500 300hp vs 350...But if you go the extra mile you will see....500 hp ..It's a rocket lol Have fun

2003 S500 4Matic (SOLD) + 2004 S55 (SOLD) 2005 CLK 500 Cabriolet 2008 S 450
The difference between an '02 and an '03-'06 is like the difference between a Volkswagen and a Porsche. I was going to say "throw in another $10,000 and I'll let you have my '04 with better equipment, 2 sets of tires and rims etc" but then I thought I'd be giving up too much fun. Sorry couldn't do it!

However if you do want to buy an S55 get one that has been checked out and has been well maintained. There are few things more expensive than a cheap S55.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was always leaning toward an 03 or newer, I just got a little excited because of the low miles on this one.

"You get what you pay for", applies as always. I just put too much emotion into my search. Plus I really would be dissapointed with 350hp. I had a c55 for a short time and it was a lot of fun but i naturally was looking for more hp and it's big money and little gain with that car.

It's always been a goal of mine to have a fully loaded luxury sedan because I love buttons and extra features. Whats that? Ooo it also has a 500hp AMG engine. SOLD.

Thanks again for knocking some sense into me.

Yup! And this car has been well maintained by the 1 owner before me at the same Mercedes dealer. I've also kept up on all maintenance including replacing both rear shocks...so they are set for life. this car needs nothing.

I still have stock wheels, which are pretty nice. I'd sell with those for $20K

Have you seen it in person? Its the size of a four door 1 series. It's an amazing car. Thats a huge change to go from an S class to a CLA.

I would have to budget about 6k more to jump to 22k. It's really tempting. I have 2 cars that are daily drivers and I dont want to give them up. The s55 I buy will be the babied car in the garage that only comes out on sunny days and weekends. I love the rims on your car too. I just need a few more $'s. I need to do it in a way that the mother of my child doesn't find out.

I've only seen pics, but it's enough to want it. I no longer need the size of a big car. Although these don't feel too big. I plan to DD another car soon, so the S55 with be the garage queen and might only come out on weekends.

Well, this car is pretty great, and well maintained at the same dealer in Houston from the owner before me. The carfax is outstanding. I've already replaced the 2 rear shocks, and had it looked over a couple months ago to make sure the rest was good including the rest of the ABC suspension. All is great.

Yea, $22K with the wheels, and I'd let it go, or whatever I owe on it, which is around $20K. Tires have less then 200 miles. Stock 19" will have new tires if wanted. None are on them now.

Let me know if you really are interested, and I'll send more pics and info.
