S55

I have 300 miles in 5 days the car is simply amazing. I was so worried about switching from BMW to MB. I was worried about the road feel and handling. With the S55 I was worried for nothing. The car IMO was worth every penny. The feel of the power that is waiting to be tapped is great for a car that is so comfortable to drive. I test drove the 745 and IMO this car has much better road feel, as well as having a better all around look. For me it was a choice between the 760 and the S55. There was no other car that I was willing to consider, the Audi while I am sure a nice car just does not do it for me. And there was no way that I would be able to live with the look of the BMW in or out. While the lack of buttons might be the next wave of the future I like the MB dash and I find the command easy to use. The Phone and keyless go are a must have. I had a K-40 put in today front/rear and laser, the installer put the lights in the center air vents so that there would be no holes in the dash. You can see the light no problem in the day and it looks cool as hell at night. I have always had installed radar in my cars but this was the first time I have heard of this and I thought I would share it here, totally stealth. Thanks to all the posters here made my lease of my S55 an informed and easy process. Couple of thoughts for discussion, will we as 03 owners with keylessgo be able to get the new keys with the chip inside the key? Will the S65 handle as well as the 55 with the added weight in the front and if so is it worth 50K more?

Fred

Yes, if you want you can order a new key with the keyless go chip in it. Be ready to catch yourself when you ask the price however.

Call the part's dept. and ask. With a normal key running ~ $150.00, I would imagine one with the keyless go chip in it would be maybe ~$450.00 or so.

Just a guess. Let me know if you find out.

I had called my service advisor about the keyless go chip in a new key for the 03 a couple of weeks ago. I saw him today and said it can not be done so I guess we will just have to carry the card.

On a side note I found my first encounter with the service department to excellent. I needed a new wheel as I brought my car to my detail shop and they scraped the front wheel. The car needed to be detailed due to the terrible prep job the dealer did and there was no way I was going to let them fix it. The detail shop then scraped the wheel but they are paying for the new one. The service department ordered the wheel had it with in 2 days and had me in and out in 20 minutes.

Went through the same process as you 760i or S55, S55 no problem, the 7 series has great steering but just isn't as good an all round package by some margin.

Great car

Is the S65 worth $50k more ?

Of course, if you need to go over 200mph everywhere

S55
4.8 secs 0-62.5mph secs,
0-125mph secs 16.3 secs
Normal limiter 155 mph, AMG limiter 187 mph, no limiter 195mph ?

S65
4.4 secs 0-62.5mph secs,
0-125mph secs 13.3 secs
Normal limiter 155 mph, AMG limiter 187 mph, no limiter 210+ mph ?

Only down sides are the mileage of the V12 engines is noticably worse than the V8 and how you get all that power down I don't know, its not too difficult to get the S55 out of shape if you are clumsy even with the traction control on .
I am sure than handling will be very good on the S65, much same as the s55

The reason that AMG give for setting thier limiter at 187mph is because they don't belive road tyres are safe enough above this level

My dealer told me that the S65 is going to closer to 200k so it will be more like 80K over the S55. For 100 more horses and .4secs faster 0-62, it does not seem worth it at all. Just like the 760 is not worth the price over the 745. What I like best about the S65 are the 19' wheels which I might put on my S55 when I see them.

Sorry no pics of the radar but I will try to put some up when I can. Not too much to take a pic of there are just two tiny red lights in the center air vents the left for the front and the right for the rear. I know radar has been talked about on other threads which is the works the best, which looks the best, etc. Bottom line is with the instant on that the cops have and if there are no cars in front of you for you to pick up the radar you are dead, and depending on your speed and the distance to the next exit it might just make sence to keep going.

You may wish to call someone else. It is possible. A co-worker has done it.
