Motor Mount job done!

good thing i replaced these mounts!

the one was sunken, the other completely broken. and trans mount just for good measure.

As far as the repair, thanks to help from Nick55 on the boards, it wasn't as scary as imagined.

lowering the rack is key! there is room(barely) to work once you do that. then you can unbolt them and snake the out after lifting the motor with a pole jack.

Also replace a humming pulsation dampener while i was at it. SIMPLE
-unscrew old dampener with 24mm wrench
-install new dampener with 24mm wrench
-cycle ABC height and top off fluid.

richvegas, you've earned your MB spurs - congratulations!

That's the job that everyone dreads.

What did it take you to do? What tools and facilities and time did you need?

Cheers, Nick

By "lift" do you mean a hydraulic car lift like a 4-poster?

Do you think the job could be done by someone at home with jacks and stands?

Many thanks and kudos,

Nick

I used a 4 point lift at my shop. I imagine it could be done on the ground, but def more struggle im sure.
I do most repairs at home like that but for this I took to my shop.

Just one more question for Richvegas and Nick55:

When you remove the motor mounts, can you unbolt them directly from the ends of motor mounting arms?

Or do you unbolt the motor mounting arms from the motor, and remove the arms and mounts together?

Thanks, Nick

it depends on which style mounts they are. there are 2 types, if you look in WIS, there are pics of the difference. one style you have to take off the bracket and the other you dont'. i had the ones where i didnt' have to take the brackets off

WIS shows the procedure for SL, CL, AND S models on the same document I believe. The SL and (maybe Maybach) use the three bolt mounts that you have to remove the arms first.
