Hey guys I have a 2006 S55 with 127k and randomly warm or cold I will go to start it and it will turn over until it times out and I'll have to press the start button again to turn off and back on and it will fire. Once or twice it didn't even turn over just clicked and then I had to turn it off and on again.. after replacing the sensors I haven't had that happen again but I have had the turning over with no start. Does anyone have any idea what else that could be? Thanks!

Could be EIS. Does the key turn in the ignition or are you only trying with the start button? Usually if a car cranks but no ignition, the usual culprit is the crankshaft position sensor but it seems you already replaced it. By the way, did you use an OEM CPS or aftermarket?

Usually using the KG. Thought about the EIS but there are no codes. Going to replace the fuel pump relay.. I replaced the crank with a Bosch

Once started, I assume the car drives just fine with no stalling / fuel starvation symptoms? If so, perhaps the fuel pump or its relay isn't to blame. Anyway, I still don't know much about these cars to give you any more suggestions. Good luck with it, and let us know how things pan out.

Thanks man! It does drive fine after it's started which is why I'm thinking the fuel pump relay could be an issue. It could be sticking possibly. I believe it's in the back under the right seat but I'm not sure which one it is.

I had the exact same situation a few years ago with my 2003 S55. It was in fact the fuel pump that caused the issues. Next time you have a no start check too see if you have any fuel pressure.

So you would get this issue and then once running it would be fine and once you replaced your fuel pump the problem was gone? Did yours not produce a CEL either? Thanks!

Highly doubt it would produce a CEL on the instrument cluster, however if you have star you will probably see a code that is voltage below normal or shorted to fuel pump circuit 1.

Still running years later now since I sold it to my Dad. That was the worst part of trying to figure out the problem, NO codes!
The day I figured it out it wouldn't start so I opened the hood and pushed in the valve on the fuel rail(with a rag) and no fuel sprayed out. I knew right then and there the pump sucked. Not that bad of a job. I would also do the filter at the same time since they are together so close.

Now that you mention it at times it would rough start and grumble for a second or two then come to life.

Yes that's exactly what mine is doing. Some mornings it's fine, others it's rough for the first couple minutes.. did replacing the fuel pump fix that too? If so that's what I'll do. Thanks!

Well the dealer wanted $410 for the fuel pump, but $299 my cost so I bought it and a new fuel filter. I'll keep the old pump as a spare if it doesn't solve the issue but I really think it is.. when it turns over it sounds exactly like a no fuel issue.. and if it was spark I would think it would surely throw a code for something..

Not yet, I think tomorrow is going to be the day. Going to replace the drivers door lock to fix the soft close, that was $500 after 30% off.. going to replace the front flex disc, it's showing minor cracking, fuel sending unit (gauge doesn't stay at full for more than a mile or so and then drops like crazy so it's totally off), the fuel pump and filter and then the parking brake.. after that the car should pretty much be 100% Just replaced the steering wheel buttons which I have done on all my 220's as they get sticky.. will probably do a tune up soon but at this point I paid 12.5 for the car and probably have spent another 6k (at cost might I add) in fixing all the little things.. many people would have probably left them all but I like my stuff to work the way it's supposed to. I hate broken things.

I'm like you... I don't like broken things either. But as I paid 27k for my S65, the law of diminishing returns is fast approaching. Anyway, good luck on the repairs. I'm interested to know if the pump solves your no-start issue.

Thanks! I'll let you know. I thought about the S65 but my specialist buddy said there are way too many motor out repairs so I got a little spooked but it is a beautiful car

Well the new pump is in.. along with the new fuel filter.. the old fuel filter was on backwards! I haven't driven it enough to know if the pump solved my issue yet but I have noticed that after a couple very small revs in neutral it did start to very slight run rough.. I think my next step is to replace the plugs and wires.. although I don't really think those could be the cause by good to get out of the way. Does anyone know the best place to buy the wires? Amazon wants $200 for the Bosch wires.

I'd test the wires before replacing if not bad don't replace. I have 20 dollars off at summit racing when I bought my plugs and probably won't use it, if you want it let me know.

Well so far so good! Only had a few hot starts so far but haven't had the issue yet. I'll keep you posted!

Well the props go to Johan!! The new fuel pump has been in for a while now and the long turning over has not happened at all since!! Thanks Johan!!

I still do have a very rare issue with pressing start and the starter will click like it's tryin to start but the starter is stuck.. you can hear the starter almost try to move but it's like it's too big of a load.. anyway I'm thinking that's just the starter going.. they are $200 or so for a remanufactured Bosch so I may just replace that vs getting stranded some where down the road
