Keyless Go only works with valet key fob

On my 2006 S55 the keyless Go functions for opening the doors by toughing the handles and starting the car with the push button on the gear selector work fine with the valet key fob kept in my pocket(it contains a single C2035 battery)

When I use any of the other 2 key fob's (they hold 2 C2035 batteries each) these function will not work other than placing the fob's in the EIS and turning them like a regular key all fob's have fresh batteries installed.

So the overall system works just regular 2 key fob's don't I have looked at the coil inside the key fob but don't see anything wrong.

Anybody that can help with information on how to proceed to get this corrected? I do have Star D available.

Thanks H

The keys that use 2 batteries are not KG keys. Only the smart keys with 1 battery are KG keys, and they must be programmed for either tracks 1 or 2 to have KG functionality enabled.

So my Keyless go works fine and the chrome fob's are just to be used as a regular key? Why do the have 2 batteries and the KG has only 1? The owners manual does not show or discusses the 2 battery model?

No idea why the non KG keys use 2 batteries, but that's just the way it is. I would use one as the valet key, keep the other as a spare, and use the regular KG key as the main one.

What I have found...

The fob's with the dual batteries appear to have a much longer distance range (100 + ft) opening and locking the car perhaps the same goes for the panic button which I have not tried out yet.

A 2006 S class with KG came with 2 black keys, both fully functional. There was no separate "valet key." It appears one of the original black KG keys for the car has gone missing. Someone bought two chrome keys as a replacement. The chrome keys were first used on the 2007 S, E and other lines. They work on the 2006 as a non keyless go and, if correctly ordered will work as KG on 2007's and newer. The KG system was changed for 2007. Some very talented people have apparently been able to make the 2 battery chrome keys work on a 2006 by replacing the electronics inside the key.
There is a newer chrome key that is again one battery. This is the version with the triangular rather than round panic button. They have pop off backs so the AMG silver logo backs can be put on the key. They are not backwards compatible on KG systems either. There is an even newer key that now has a different style and shape than we are familiar with. Saw a few of them in cars at the dealer last weekend.

The key fob for my 2005 S55AMG is black and only has one battery. The key fob for the keyless go has a special chip in it that works with the keyless system. The previous owner probably bought a spare that is not set up for the keyless system. The first generation W220's with keyless go had a credit card thing that signaled the keyless system. You can't even get one of those from the dealer anymore {from what I've heard}. Then they went to a key fob with a built in chip that worked with the keyless system. They don't make a chrome fob for the W220 keyless as far as I know, I've never seen one. I've never even seen a chrome case that you can take the guts out of the black case and put in a chrome key fob. A new keyless fob is a dealer only part, and I'll bet it will cost you $300 + to buy one. You have to take the title of your car, and have I.D. that matches the name on the title, when you order one at your local Mercedes dealer. Look at the pics in the link I've included. Take the guts out of one of your chrome keys and compare it to the picture of the keyless go fob. The keyless go fob looks different than the fob for a non keyless fob. https://w220.ee/SmartKey

That is avery useful page !

I wish this or the other board would have a forum section just like that.

The keys, the years, what works, what doesn't.

Also, ways to diagnose key vs. EIS issues

Thanks for posting, I'd never seen images of black plastic with KLG
