2009 S63 AMG Front Brake Rotors - OEM Alternative
Fellow Members,
I am looking to change-out the front rotors and pads on my ride in the next 3-6 months and just can't get past the jaw dropping price of these discs. I've shopped all the usual outlets for non-OEM units but am falling short. The cheapest i've found are $650 each (bargain compared to $1150 for MB units).
Of interest is that you can pick up rear non-OEM (Bosch) for ~$125 each (O'Reillys carry another brand in stock for $89). I can't believe someone hasn't began cranking these out in volume. I understand that they're big, but steel is cheap and easy to work, so as long as they're cast and turned well (and most modern parts are as the lathe's are all CNCs) there really is nothing in the material nor labor economics to justify the insane price.
Has anyone found a lead on cheaper units? Or has anyone found and tried cheaper units and had a positive/negative experience?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I would assume volume of sales would be unknown and most "amg owners" especially s class don't like buying parts from anywhere but the dealer.
You are completely right you could probably have a machine shop make theses for 500 a piece front, and 300 a piece rear.
With the e or c class I'm sure you will see way lower prices prices for obvious reasons but s class has little to no aftermarket support.

On a side note, O'Reillys does NOT have rotors for my S65. BUT, I can get them online for $200~ even though the OEM's are $1000 +.
E42 is right. There are very few aftermarket suppliers for our AMG's as they are not a normal vehicle you see everyday.
If the O'Reilly rotors fit, get them. Unless you are running the hell out of your 63, they should work fine.

Racing Brake has aftermarket two piece for 750.00 each if that helps. Replaceable rings.
I would do that before handing over the same money for OEM.

O'Reillys only sell the rear discs - no fronts unfortunately. I have to believe it's a licensing issue. There is no way companies like Bosch would leave that much money on the table if they could use their manufacturing might to turn out front rotors and sell that at $250 each and steal the market (these rotors are common to S63, S65, CL, CLS...) That was my point. I realize the heaviest lifting (by far) is done by the front brakes - but that they're 8-11 times the price of the rear units (which are not exactly lightweight units either) is beyond me.
Where do you source $200 rotors from for your S65?

I purchased the (rear) Bosch rotors from Amazon in the end and have them on the garage shelf awaiting installation. I checked all the critical measurements on the current rotors and may be 6-12 months away from *needing* to do a rear brake overhaul, but I pulled the trigger on the purchase just in case these things vanish from the market and leave me in the same hole i'm in on the fronts. Still browsing options on the front, nothing has surfaced below $650 so far. If this changes I'll be sure to post an update.

Just saw this thread about front rotors. I did find mbwholesalepartsonline.com and they claim to sell the original front MB rotors for $708 each. Then I noticed they have an offer for 10% off with the code TENNOFFMAR. So that ends up being at about $640 each.
I just ordered a new coilpack from them this weekend so we will see how it all works out. Decided since I need to change my plugs to just be proactive and get a new coilpack. Had the other side just rebuilt.

At 216.6K I can tell you the brake dust is less than stock but not as low as some focusing on that. Pretty much matches the rears now. No noticeable fade on spirited mountain driving. Very good brake feel. I wish I could report how it does on the track, but I will update,
Oh yes, no squeal and no problems in the cold. Where 25F is about as cold as they would get.
Best part is I kept my floating rotors for a fraction of the price now that I only change the iron disk!
