My 2016 s63 coupe is too quiet! Please help

Hey guys,

I just purchased a beautiful 2016 s63 coupe. However, while I love everything about the car, the exhaust sound is not what I would expect from an AMG. My friend has a c43, and his car even sounds nicer! I would love to achieve the sound closer to that of the 2019 s63 coupe, where they increase the sound after the face lift.

What are my options? I read online and saw people recommending a resonator delete or secondary cat delete. Please let me know your thoughts, everything is great, I just want a bit more volume. Thank you so much!

Congrats on the S63.

Another member here @S63AMG888 is selling a Brabus exhaust at a nice discount, that would give you more volume. And there are plenty of other options from Meisterschaft, Akropovic, Renntech, etc. For best sound you will want to replace the downpipes (I'd recommend Euro6 300 cell sport cats to avoid CEL, avoid smell, and remain complaint for states that require emissions testing for registration) and catback if you go aftermarket. An ECU tune can augment the overruns and burbles if you like them, just don't go overboard where people call the po-po when you drive by, thinking there is a mass shooting! And importantly do your due diligence regarding warranty before pursuing ECU tune and downpipes... technically your remaining factory warranty is void, although some dealers are more mod friendly than others and may agree to cover problems under good will if they do the install. But ultimately if your engine takes a dump, it may well be on you.

Also be aware:
  1. The OEM exhaust has valves which are closed in Comfort and open in Sport. It is significantly louder in Sport, so make sure you select that once you start the car. That also disables the very annoying start/stop feature. Unfortunately it will default to Comfort every time, with start/stop active, and I don't believe there is any way to change that at least without access to MB service software.
  2. USA S-Class models have double pane glass and extensive sound insulation around the cabin. Car is much louder outside than inside, so drive with the windows down to best appreciate the sound and also the pillar-less coupe design. Even the 2015-2017 sound pretty darn good from the outside in Sport mode.

I had a 2015 and I agree about it being too quiet. I didn't enjoy it so traded it in for a 2018 and what a difference. After market exhaust is the only option. I had a tune which didn't help at all

Building an exhaust for mine in the next few weeks. I'll post some clips. $7-15k for a cat back is laughable. That is lambo money

Thank you Heisenberg for the shout out. The Brabus valve controlled exhaust system most definitely makes it sound allot better with the carbon diffuser without having to worry about warranty issues and like you mentioned, at a fraction of the cost from Brabus.

I love the sound of my Akropovic exhaust system. I think there's a video with the sound in the upgrade thread. Makes a big difference and gives it just the right omf of sounds, especially sport mode, and downshifting :-) -- got it from David of the https://wheelsboutique.com -- and lots more goodies from him. David is awesome to work with! And +1 on windows open when it isn't too cold. Then it will blow you away.

Yes on the windows down but as the temperatures drop make sure to wear a scarf

around your neck - it will not impede your driving experience or the sound of the exhaust -

Nothing like a cold crisp sunny fall day for a spirited drive -

Enjoy - I do

Thank-You

Congrats on the purchase! I also felt like you after purchasing mine. The one thing it was missing was an exhaust. I went with a Meisterschaft system. It really woke the car up. I also liked that you could close it and make it quiet when you want and open it up when needed. I drive open with mine open all the time. I originally tried to do electric cutouts which i have on most my cars but on the s63 they hung so low and looked horrible. It cost me 6k installed for the Meisterschaft but was worth every penny. I enjoy the car that much more now. Here is some vids of mine.
