Fillers next to the rear license plate?
It appears there are fillers in the rear bumper looking at the rear end of US and EU version, see below.
This is to be expected given wider EU license plates and the extra cost to manufacture US specific bumpers.
Anyone has any idea how these are attached and if it's possible to remove?

Those are actually there for US/Canada rear end low speed crash impact bumper standards.
In other forums, folks had to actually modify the bumpers, I don’t think they can simply be removed to reveal a painted area like the EU ones. I much prefer the look of the EU ones. These are pretty soft on the S class.... if you look at the new CLS the bulges look ridiculous.

I think it looks stupid to have the long gap with short tag in the middle, and the usa plate is longer and hangs down to far anyway. It balances it out to leave them alone

I've seem carbon replacement parts from China on Ebay. If I remember there were a few tabs holding them in, so I bet the factory ones are easy to remove. Not sure whether there is paint under them or not, but seems easiest to make the cars all the same and add these on before shipment to USA or at VPC, which would favor the bumper underneath being painted.

If you saw Dorian at Joey you can see that even the US version doesn't look too bad after you add the gadget for the rear. It actually fits really well and leave very little space on both side. I looked and I don't have a good pic, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep, saw it. It's a bit low to my taste and I wanted to push it up as high as possible (and it is really limited by the license plate pocket). I ended up having two sensors mounted right on top of the license plate.

I agree it doesn't look too bad. But if anyone wants to remove them, here are pics of some Chinese carbon fiber replacements - shows the tab location and orientation which should enable them to be removed without breaking anything.
