Here are spark plugs from Cylinder #1, #2, #5, #6 in that order.
I'm not a mechanic or anything close but I think there is a bigger problem here than just misfiring.
Why is plug 1 and 2 seemed wet or oily on the thread? Shouldn't the thread side of the plugs be dry, like 5, 6?
I believe a person who professes to be smart or intelligent is only above average. This person knows they are smarter than the average bear, but does not know just by how much. So they overcompensate because they can and the majority is none the wiser. But when you meet a truely gifted person, you're made a fool because the tools that worked on the majority do not apply.
^^^ Thats just ramblings.

When I replaced #3/#4(which are on the same side as #1/#2), noticed they too had that oilyness.
I wonder something is wrong on that side? I googled it, most people said a little bit like mine is normal...
Could someone who isn't an armchair mechanic chime in? Quad, Alx, Konig?
I drove the car for a couple hours. Its running smooth, but I can tell the Tranny fluid/filter need to be changed. If the sparks were original, surely tranny/diff. fluids are aswell. I can't wait to change them as I change them on my TL every 30k miles.

ah so the rest of us are armchair mechanics. Good luck
....and not very good at following directions. But that's OK....you might learn eventually. Would you like me to forward you the application to DENSA that I received in the mail?

Ah come on, you know it's not like that... I ment Mike n Dave. If it wasn't for you I would be replacing coils and not plugs. I love you like a fat kid loves cake!! Your my main man!

Plugs look like normal worn out plugs. Old ones should have a tan color on the insulator which yours have. Oil on the threads could be blow by via valve guides or rings, more likely worn valve guides. Rust is troublesome looking but that is probably based on the cars proximity to water for most of its life. Rust on the electrode of plug 2 could be water ingestion but that is doubtful as well. Make sure you properly gap the new plugs with the right tool, some parts guys will say they are pre gapped, BS, check em all.
I put them in as is. I checked the gap and they were all on the red in the pic. Is this correct? I read that it should be at .8mm, but I don't know what .8mm is. I do see .08mm though, but it seemed like too big a gap.

That's my favorite 7 series as well. I saw a guy in Long Island years ago who had one in the very hard to find manual transmission.
I never drove one. They are so cheap now but.....I don't think it would be the same now. The newer 7 series never did anything for me. Strangely enough i didn't care for the S class of that era until the refresh of 2010. A friend of mine bought a new S class back in 05' and I didn't care for it at all. I hated the interior.
I hope the guy took good care of it. BMW's with manuals are hard to find in a pre-2000 7 series or even 1980's 6 series. The one time I remember test driving an E38, the steering felt heavy. It was a big car like the W140 S-Class, but Mercedes made the S feel more nimble on the road. Yeah, it's not the same once you've owned a modern S-Class or even a 7-series. All the modern conveniences are hard to give up now.
lol at all that ^^^^ It was worn spark plugs... Replaced them all, returned the two coil packs. Next on the list, change tranny fluid, estimate at MB.
So are you getting the estimate from the MB dealership for the transmission fluid replacement? While you're there you may want to ask them how much it cost for them to read the codes, OK. If you decide to have the MB dealership do the transmission fluid on the car, check their website for service special coupons. Usually there's like a 10% off or something like that. I don't care if you're made of money or otherwise, 10% of an MB service bill will buy you a decent lunch.
Do you have a manual? Perhaps you can help me instead. I figure nor do you, or else you would be doing just that. Or perhaps you do and instead would rather be an ***.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day,
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
So do I have a manual? absolutely.
We can safely infer by your presence on this forum that you have and can operate a computer. Well ebay is your friend. I wont look it up for you. This is your project not mine but go look for mercedes shop repair manuals, the cost will pale in comparison to what you have already wasted.
You remind me of someone who wants help, i.e. tell me exactly what's wrong with my car from 3000 miles away, based on observations that are made by an amateur who apparently doesn't know how to take measurements or make technical assessments accurately. What could possibly go wrong?
oh and after you tell him he will ignore the advice and swap the tranny fluid to fix an electrical bug.
A this point I think you should invest in 22 inch chrome wheels and new tires. perhaps it's not misfiring it's just a wheel imbalance. You just need more bling and no one will even be looking at the bent back end.
They may not butcher it, but I'm afraid that they may mess up the aluminum structure by elongating it or heating it up and making it flimsy, or cracking it.
One shop wanted me to get the 2 aluminum parts and they would put it together, but Vlad can do that. Abra said I could pull it myself. Even brought out a dolly which they called a "cheat stick", showed me how to use it and offered I give it a shot. Eff that, I thanked them and left.
Thanks for clearing that up Mike, I found an MB certified shop in my area.
Autowerks NW
7516 S.W. Macadam Ave.,
Portland, OR 97219
(503) 246-2200
They have an "Elite Aluminum Structural Certification"
Update: OMG this shop charges $52/h body repair - $35/h for paint. I found my new repair place! Maaco was charging that rate, Thanks Fellas!
My 'Cedes is a 2007.
MBS55, were you able to get a quote from these guys?

I'm getting an estimate to fix the rear end at a certified MB auto body shop. The tranny fluid and filter are an easy service. I can take care of it myself.

It was 2pm after I installed the plugs so I did not get it today. Didn't want to get stuck in heavy traffic.

So you do realize that your gauge is English and measuring inches and not metric measuring mm........ right?
