Lightbulb Coilover conversion SWAY / Torsion Bars DY

So, I don't have much time
I have been driving without torsion bars for a while with Yellow coil-over suspension
it was ok, not bad at all, but I wanted to make it better

THIS IS FOR A 2003 CL600
I am saying this because on my subframe, I had the place to bolt on the torsion bar ready on my subframe

all you need is to remove the ABC crap on those two locations and you can bolt on the fantastic sway bar from a W220

The ride will be 95% as good as ABC

here pictures and part list

good luck

Control Arms left and right
A2203308907
A2203309007
many aftermarket company's make these, don't be silly and buy them from mercedes

second hand complete torsion bar
A2203232565

Bushing Brackets x2 (and you need the two bolts)

A2203230040

result:

remarks:
don't forget to buy the two bolts and nuts
it looks difficult to get behind the subframe to hold the nuts but it isn't
your fingers will go there

buy the sway bar second hand from ebay
hundreds there !

Also, the replacement lower arms have the lower end of the springs connecting more outside, that increases the firmness of the coil-overs !

update
After a 2 years experiencing, you must add this mod to make it perfect:
new control arms mod

you won't regret this !

Thanks for the details !!

When buying aftermarket control arms , buy lemfoerder or genuine Mercedes oem
The eBay supplier like Hamburg technic or URO are not good

Yes but you need pricey sl65 black series parts

They didn't have abc and used struts

Did you have to use flat top yellowspeed front coilovers or do the slanted top ones bend out that extra bit onto w220 arms? I'm interested in this as it's pretty easy to do this unless I have to fit flat top mounts to send the lower of Strut out to match 220 lower arms...

The Cl 500 also has these subframe mounts, I haven't encountered much body roll but the 600 has probably got more nose weight. Only concern I have noticed is a bit of bobbing at speed but if I add more rebound it cures it but makes it a bit harsh at lower speed. ARB won't solve that but if it's an easy mod I may as well do it.

Well, I ordered yello coilovers for slanted but what they send me had flat tops, maybe they ask that just for the size as I called them and they said it was ok
whatever, yes it bends fine, position is fine

Yes I'm thinking about it now, it was always a big wallowing cruiser before but since the coilovers it definitely feels more like a large sports car so I'm interested in making it handle well. I'm on 26 clicks front & 22 rear now on the damping. I find it's more fun to drive fast since conversion.

What I have got is a bit of low speed noise from the rear struts like you can hear them going up & down ( a light rattle) it stops above 45mph. I've had both back coilovers out & cant see anything that would cause it.

It's as though I'd left the bottom mounting bolts loose but I haven't & they are packed with grease.

Dealing with same noise in the rear. Will be replacing all 8 rear thrust arms hoping that solves it

I replaced all these, I had no special noises but it's better to replace these after 13+ years

you need to remove the whole subframe for this
not very difficult but heavy

How did you get the subframe bushes in and out?

Thanks, Nick

wood, metal pieces and a huge hammer
to get them in, same thing but you use the subframe's weight by returning it
+ some vaseline

ps, don't forget to mark position before removal

Is there any modifications that need doing on the rear ? What is best to do with the pump ? Can it be changed for just a power steering pump ? Lastly what is best way to stop the errors with abc gone.
My 2005 cl600 pump is on its way out so if it's fairly simple I'm going to do the conversion. The coilovers are nearly the same price as changing the pump. Thanks

The ride will not be anywhere nearly as smooth as what your expecting, Just a FYI it becomes very aggressive. Unless *** you add both sways bars then you can soften up the struts considerably and the ride is decent. Still very sporty but not embarrassing at all.

To get rid of the RED ABC error you can just disconnect the CAN bus for the ABC system out of the Driver side fuse box. Then you get ABC display defective and you can clear the warning. There is no modifications for the rear sway all the mounting points are there. You just need to drop the subframe which is pretty labor intensive.

You can swap the pump, from a regular S500.

you can keep the pump and modify the circuit
look in posts I posted how

for the ABC error you can buy the strutmaster module
or search for my other post how to code out ABC with DAS developper
it's easy

I haven't been successful coding out the option 160. It never allows it to complete. It will give a communication error. as far as the star goes. On my S55. Maybe S600 or S65 is different.

So it's better to have a rear sway bar but not critical. I get it that with a sway bar fitted the springs can be set a bit softer. I'm going to get on eBay and start looking for parts. Thanks for the information.

ABC ecu is not locked because of your tune
only the engine ecu and the transmission ecu might be locked
