V12 twinturbo intercooler caps
Guys, be careful if you have air in intercooler coolant after a few weeks
I couldn't get why this kept going on and of course looked a few times at my cap
it looked ok but wasn't
look at the old cap, after buying a new one from MB (only 16euros)
I tested the old rubber and it broke of, meaning it was dead
hope this helps at least a few of you
and of course, vacuum with your home made kit:

You can eliminate the vaccuum procedure if you put on a vented cap and install an intercooler overflow tank

I am having a aluminum tank maker building me a custom 25 liter icebox tank for my trunk. for me the best solution for overturned turbos
once I received the tank I'll see if I need a overflow too and where
if you have any info for icebox tank installs you're welcome

I had the same issue with my cap, I noticed the car down on power but didn't attribute it to the i/c system since I had replaced the pump and bled it well. Turned out the cap seal was fried and the car was pushing out coolant and sucking in air when hot. New cap, refilled and bled, no more issues.

I would have freaked out lol*
I was so surprised that I missed that as visually, and touching with my fingers, that cap looked ok I even bend the rubber slightly but I should have bend it hard first time
thx for your info
look at that

this is the absolute best upgrade you can do against air in the intercooler circuit. all OEM parts which fit perfekt. just plug and play.....
i did that 2 months ago and had since that day no more problems, no limb mode, no CEL,....
very recommend

and the best of all: the system bleeds by itself

However, it doesn't bleed the system. The system is full of airlocks, that doesn't change, and you still have to bleed it.

what is the part# for the original cap? i've searched online and can't find it.
thanks.
p.s. dealer wants $20.17 and is 50 miles away. i'll bet online for half the price if i can locate one.

hi nick. i think that too but at least the water level in the new header tank falled the first three test drives. now the level ist absolutly constant. after this knowledge i am sure it bleeds a bit by itself.

The engine was designed for Maybach cars, they needed a turbo setup. It was ok enough, it doesn't really cause problems, it's just not optimum. That's the German way it seems, as long as it technically "works", it's good, doesn't' have to be logical or work well. Coming from Japanese cars, it's completely backwards, but that's the way the German engineering goes.

my full size intercooler radiatior arrived yesterday
I would need those connection plugs, if anyone know if there is a place to buy these without hose or if this is on all models from XXX on EPC they have them but with weird hoses

Nice. That's the sort of HE we should all have.
The connectors are quick release, so you would need the mating receptacles from the matching hoses. I couldn't find them though. Might be able to use a BMW, Audi or VW part?
For my own curiosity, could you measure the L x W x D of the finned matrix?
Thanks, Nick
