S55/CLS55 (03-08) Kompressor fitted on NA M273 engine in w221 s550

I've owned a w221 S550 over a year now and have had a great time driving it but i wonder if anyone has attempted to fit an older model s-class super charger in the base s550 m273 engine, i read things about kleeman Kompressor for the m273 but I can't find any actual proof of its existence, I don't mind if it can't be simply bolted on but if it's even possible to fit it in because of the sizes. I try to steer away from the concept of turbos because I read over and over again about the reliability issues the turbos bring in.

There is no supercharger available for the M273. With enough fabrication, you can most definitely install the supercharger from the M113K onto the M273. The other issue would be fuel management and tuning. The M273 uses mass airflow sensor where the M113k uses speed density.

If you're worried about reliability you should not add custom/aftermarket performance parts to your engine.
Maybe trade your car in for a S55 or S63 AMG?

Im fond of my own chassis and this model but the main reason i dont just trade in is because of how little tuning i see in regards of the M273, i read all about how there was the timing chain issue which eventually lead to a lawsuit but i feel the M273 needs more love rather then just giving it up for an AMG, though i would love a W221 S63 or a beautiful V12 S65 but I'll stay committed.

W221 S500L
Hi, I'm a W221 S500L owner from China and I'm also planning to supercharge my car. I read about the Kleemann supercharger but I don't think it has ever been put into production. Then one day when I was going through a shopping website, I found that there are performance shops here that have successfully built superchargers for the M273 V8, and even the M272 V6, which is reverse engineered from the Kleemann supercharger that was originally made for the M113 engine. And I found a post of a V6 variant of these getting installed on a pre-facelift GLK300 with 3.0L M272 V6, the power gain is quite significant, from 126HP and 170nm to the wheels when stock, to 203HP and 269nm to the wheels when this supercharger kit is installed. Considering it's only a 3L V6 and the car it's AWD, I'd say that a pretty good power gain. I can imagine the numbers to be a lot higher on a RWD 5.5L V8. Anyway, here's a photo of my car and some photos of the supercharger installed on a M272 3L V6.

I'm afraid not. I'm also trying to find more details about it. I will do more researches on Chinese MB forums and ask if anyone installed the V8 version of it. If this kit is proven to be reliable, I may consider trying it on my car and help export it to the US.

Here I am an owner of a CL550 M273 (I know this is the S class forum, with your permission), and I think as they said above, the M273 has potential for more. Does anyone know if the CL or S 63 intake along with the throttle body and air filter boxes would be a gain? I have read that the M273 was capped so as not to overshadow the CL or S 600. What do you think?

There is very little to be gained (and a lot to be risked) by trying to "hot rod" the M273. The compression is too high to safely add supercharging and there is very little available in the aftermarket to upgrade the power. The M273 is a fantastic motor in its own right and imho benefits from some freer flowing exhaust so you can really hear it. I did this myself on my SL550 and I am very happy.

If you want a faster W221 (or any of the platforms that used the M273) there are plenty of other options available. I can GUARANTEE it will be cheaper and more reliable in the long run to just buy a faster car. The M156 6.2 AMG motor should be what you are focused on attaining here imho. THAT, is one hell of a V8 :-)

they get knock sensors.... and these days lots of cars run 10:1 with turbos, but you would need to keep low boost - don't expect it to like life with 0.8 bar boost, 0.3 maybe, and 0.5 at times on proper high octane fuels - lots of stuff these days can overboost for first 10 seconds then wind back as things heat up

re. the joke std airboxes they are horrible - some bod does spacers (at crazy cost - 2 x $10 3d printing and doubling the price for a bit of profit - doesn't come to $350 in my book) it makes the airbox 20 mm or so deeper and the filter also gets to sit in a less ridiculous space so it'll pick up a bit of grunt

I do wonder about most people - wrecking the power curve with a hideous racket, drones from exhaust on long trips, and half the torque everyday on the way to work to gain 25 bhp, yet the owner has probably only once had it on full chat at 5k rpm in the last month - and that was likely for less than 8 seconds, before they got scared

cars can go twice as fast - dead std... by anticipating what the other fools are doing around you and maintaining a steady flowing pace... then you need better tyres, then dampers, then brakes and the engine ? what's the point ? plod are waving a camera on every other road and or the tank is as empty as your wallet if you take it past 1/2 throttle - and then the morons around just get even more irritating than normal
