Anyone have a subwoofer in the trunk of an R129???

I'm trying to figure out if you can hear a subwoofer in the trunk of an R129??? Right now the best solutions I can come up with using the space where the Bose sub is will sound good but might not be convincing enough for my taste and the convertible environment. If I'm going to pay for someone to do some fiberglass work for an enclosure then I'd like to make sure I accomlish my goal. I'm thinking of a JL W6 12" in the drivers side of the trunk...It's got quite a bit of space if you use the divet for part of the enclosure where the factory phone and changer are...both will be gone when I replace the head unit. I can't stomach the idea of changing the stock look of behind the seats, mainly for security reasons but I like keeping things stealthy.

Sure seems a shame to use up all that golf club space...

I don't play golf (and this isn't my only vehicle), I wish I has time to learn and play. My mountain bike doesn't fit in the trunk either

The design I have in mind won't take up much space...I'm guessing I'd loose about 8-10 inches on that side where changer is now (depth depends on the driver I choose). I only need 1.25 cubic feet for the 12" I want and less for a 10"...a good amount of the space is the divet I speak of. There is only about .5 cubic foot of space behind the drivers seat without reconfiguring the interior and that's only good for an 8" driver.

I have a 12" sub in a box in the trunk. It won't win competitions but sounds darned good with the top down and city driving. However, freeway driving totally eliminates the quality.

I have an aftermarket Panasonic stereo that only plays through the front speakers. You guys are way ahead of me.

The sound system will be my winter project - let me know how it works out for you.

I was in the car stereo business for many years and never heard a system in a convertible that could overcome the noise on the highway with the top down (OK, there was one but it was done at the expensive of the back seat and stealth) . All you can really ask for on the highway is loud enough, not quality. But I do want excellent quality for sitting still or close to it. I think I might just try the trunk option in mine...this will leave the current subwoofer compartment open for the amp(s), so they won't have to use any of the trunk space.

Only this year I have been wondering this too. I have two 12"s which I'd like to go isobaric with, but always wondered if the sub would penetrate through the soft top compartment efficiently enough.

So you guys reckon yes?

i run a single 12 in my trunk, and it adds some subtle bass

it is hard to penetrate the soft top compartment, but im not looking for the booming bass anyways

I answered in the other thread about my subwoofer in the back of the front seats. I never would build a subwoofer in a closed trunk without connecting it to the interior!
