ChrisB, Thanks for the compliment! Really I don't do anything special, infact I'm quite lazy when it comes to cleaning cars. I did use that Supagard on it, may be it's that that does the job!?! I know the wheels are a pig to keep clean, due to the crappy MB stock pads. I want EBC green stuff next...

im not sure what the red colours name is but it is very nice when it is clean, other wise its 11 year old 70k is shown! i was thinking about getting that new AMG body kit but after a good paint jod it is like 3.5K, so im just going to represent the 94, (altho i did switch out the taillights.)

Dam ... those red and black SL pitures are stunning. Red and Black really make the R129 look aggressivly sporty.
Makes my Smoke Silver look rather sedate .
That is a nice low down angle on the front 1/4 view picture from SL60 ///AMGSL. That red R129 looks like it wants to jump off the screen.
A secretary from our office had gone to Disneyland this spring. She knows I have one but she never speaks of SL cars. When she returned from LA she said she had seen a stunning red car with cromed out wheels in a parking lot. She just had to go see what this beauty was. Then she was suprised that it was an SL. She knew that MB cars look conservative with the aluminum wheels. Having now seen 2 great examples of red / crome on the R129. I now know why she was impressed .

Have you added the extra stop-light on the boot or was it so from the production? I don´t. Early 1996 (until summer) don´t have it. Later production under 1996, have the stop-light.

My car is model year 1997 (registered Sep-96) so it got the rear stop light.
I have not modified the car since last June when I bought it.
The exhaust was a cost option in the UK and was not specified on my car.
When my exhaust needs replacing I will consider the AMG pipes along with maybe some other options. Personally, I like the car as discreet as possible, so I have no interest in putting a flashy exhaust on it.
I've been thinking about changing the door handles and wing mirrors to the later styles so they are colour-coded and retractable (respectively) but haven't got round to it yet...

I don't see the cost benefit of spending £1000+ on xenons. My lights look fine, and work fine.
Note your comments re the other mods. TBH I probably won't ever get round to doing them.
I don't spend alot on that sort of thing. I'm saving up for when the engine/gearbox/exhaust/electrics etc etc etc need attention!

They do add a subtle kind of aggressive look (IMHO) and they make the car just slightly different to the SL500/600.
Just a styling thing really.
There is an option code, but I'll have to check my manual to remember what it is.

Do you have the wing mirror upgrade units, I'd love to get them fitted to my 98 SL600.

Dam.
We were driving top down today ...so we were probably attracting a lot of attention our selves .
However ... I did notice today a black R129 SL 600 with (of course) black soft top (up) drive by. Just like the receint picture posts. Very sharp!
The black or dark blue colors must be the most practical soft top colors.
Our top being tan has been subject to staining (the prvious owners must have left it stored away when damp) and rub marks ... all those fittings packed away against the canvas leafds to abrasion .
