1999 SL500 ECU tune?
I am in the pipeline to swap out my M113 5.0 engine for an AMG M113 5.5 Naturally Aspirated one.
I may need to re-tune my ECU to take full advantage of the new engine.
Any ideas or input would be highly appreciated.
Anyone out there that can tune my ECU to the 5.5 NA M113 setup?
Thanks in advance

I'm interested in your project as to the engine swap and every thing you need to do put in that motor plus the exact engine model you choose

Oh no I cannot go down that path for the sake of keeping it simple , to some extent.. original and safe.
I am told I don't need to touch the ECU, I'm just curious if I should to take full advantage of the new power.

Without adjusting the ECU, no. The fuel injection timing is definitely different. Therefore the cylinders are never filled to the optimum...
Same with the ignition timing..
Btw i have a spare S55 ME 2.0 ;-) but even here the characteristics is different to the SL55 ECU.
( Hint: A ME2.1 or 2.8 is extra effort since it needs even more manipulation of electronics expecting a ME2.0)
Keep us updated, iam curios how it goes.. :-)

With a 5.5L M113, (and some tranny mods) you might legitimately badge this an SL55 but leave the AMG badges off.
From wiki:
The M113 5.4L is a 5.4 L (5,439 cc) version with the same 97 mm (3.82 in) bore as the M113 5.0 but with a longer 92 mm (3.62 in) stroke developed by Mercedes-AMG. These cars were the first to carry the 55 AMG title. Power output is 342 to 362 hp (347 to 367 PS; 255 to 270 kW) at 5,500 rpm with 510 to 530 N⋅m (376 to 391 lb⋅ft) of torque at 2,800–5,400 rpm.
Applications:
Nicely done.

Anyways. I'm out of town but the news I'm getting is car running fine. Mechanic says there's a huge difference in performance.
I'm just glad I swapped out a 150k mile engine for a 20k mile AMG engine

Just got the car back and all I can say is wow. I'm very pleased with how smooth the engine is and his responsive the revs are.
Power is most certainly there at my feet and that TSC light flashes alot more now.
Anyways, I'll upload a full review of what was done and which parts were mated over from the existing car.
Can't wait to get the ECU tuned.

A video of the start up this morning. Don't mind my hand and fingers, I have no idea why I pointed where I did when talking about the throttle body.

Not that you need it, but..

As for LSD and swapping out the diff gear, drive the car for a while and think about it later. You essentially have an AMG SL55 and those are pretty good compared to regular SL500s. I would be more concerned with the color of your transmission solenoids and if they are brown, swap them for blue. Other than that, enjoy the heck out of the car.
Bravo.
- Turn the key to position 2. You should see all the dash lights come on. ...
- Press the gas pedal all the way. ...
- Wait. ...
- Turn key to OFF, position 0. ...
- Release the gas pedal.
- Wait 2 minutes. ...
- Start the car and drive.

Just to make it clear. I was talking about new gearbox shift characteristics matching to a 2.82 diff.
While the last comment was about resetting TCM adaptions which are used to adapt the gearbox wear in order to match the gearbox shift characteristics.
This is only recommened in case the unit has been rebuild, since it takes some while for the TCU to adapt again.
Thats being said, it should be clear that if there is any effect, its only temporary.
Cheers, Frank

You should probably read this. There's a SL55 guy (on BW) from Germany that can maybe give you some part numbers off the diff of his real AMG
