SL600 maybe
Should I buy a 95 SL600 for $400?

This v12 has been sitting for about 4 years, garaged in southern California. It turns over but doesnt start. I dont think fuel is getting to the engine. Interior is pretty used but the engine looks very clean. Not it the greatest condition but it was driven to where it now sits. I mean...400 bucks. Any advice? ? If I get it running is this something that someone would want to buy to put time into and make pretty? Sorry for the vague post but a vague answer will do. Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

What is the goal, to flip (resell) the car? A running vehicle will sell for a much higher price than a nonrunning vehicle. The question is how much time and money is needed to get it running? If you have the time, money, desire and ability, go for it.

Surf this site to get an idea on what it will cost to bring it to running condition. Bringatrailer.com may have an auction or two to use for reference pricing. Good luck and post your progress.

Heck strip it and sell the parts

Car of this size would bring probably $500 at scrap iron place.

BaT shows sold SL600s in the mid 1990s selling for approx $10k. Does that business equation work for you? If you put $6k into the car and sold it for $10k, is that attractive? What is your time worth to you?

I'd do it if you do all of your own work. The most expensive repairs will be in the convertible top and suspension. See my threads here. I recently bought a 97 SL600 for $1,900. So far I've invested $1,900 in parts (free labor). It would only be $800 in parts if I didn't have to buy a hydraulic control unit from Mercedes. These are a bit tough to find used parts for that are more unique to the 600's. So right now I have $3,800 invested and the car is on the road and driving beautifully. The only major job I haven't tackled is rebuilding the top cylinders. It's a great winter project (Northeast guy here).

How many miles on it?

You can sell a single part from this car and recover your 400 bucks.
That should be enough incentive for you to strip it down and sell the parts and make a lot of money, instead of investing time and money to get it going and ope to make money afterwards.

Thank you all, for the input. I havent been able to get into the car yet, to give more details. However, I'm hopeful that the convertible top and suspension are good since when I saw it the first time it was practically on the ground and the top was down. Now its moved (pushed) and sitting at ride height and the top is up. So that's promising. My guess is having a charged battery allowed the suspension to adjust.
It will be a slow project as I'll be fitting it in when I can, but I'll post updates and use the resources here for sure. Thank you for being so responsive and supportive thus far. I expect to give it a proper look over next week.
Thanks!

The car has to run for the suspension to rise.

Your only risking $400! If you ever wanted a V12, then why not give it a spin in a beautiful SL. The Germans may not be simpler or cheaper than the British V12's, but at least their engineering makes more sense and it can be logically repaired.

Example: Factory manual of XKE "engine removal" step 1: disconnect battery ( we all saw that coming) step 2: remove DRIVER's SEAT!!

93-95 are the biodegradable engine harness years.

Sell for parts.
