Brake upgrade for 2002 SL 500 Silver Arrow

Any advice or direction to upgrading brakes on 2002 Silver Arrow? Have seen lots of threads on later model SL's, but none on this particular model. Thanks to all in advance.

You already have the factory OEM upgraded brakes. All R129s built from MY 99 on up have the upgraded brakes.

Pull one of the front calipers off and look on the inboard part of the casting for the Brembo lettering.

You could change out to more aggressive brake pads like Akebono (if the car doesn't already have them).

I consider the upgraded brakes necessary for all the V12 cars built earlier than the 1999 cut-over.

Yes that is correct, all 99+ models have upgraded brake calipers.
Your silver arrow has the slotted or drilled rotors too.

It's perfect.

i has read somewhere that the R129 SL was outfitted from factory wth Brembo brakes ... but lost the reference & could not Google it.
i also did not know 1999 was the first year for that.
Lucky me & I know for sure why my 1999 stops very well when jamming on those brakes.
Have had to do that quite a few times in the past 18 years of ownership.
Has never disappointed ...
Thanks for confirming the fact.

Thanks all. I have to replace my disks and pads, was just wondering if there was a bolt on kit that was a bit more aggressive. Maybe as Mahunt suggests, use Akebono pads.

Go to the dealership (if they are still available) and get the SA rotors. Call your local auto parts store and see if the offer Akebono.

Great bite with little dusting.

Thanks all. I have received my new Zimmerman front rotors which are drilled, and found a set of new OE Mercedes rear rotors. Should have the Akebono pads by this week-end. Will let you know how i works out.

I purchased Akebono pads, EUR 603 front, EUR 847 rear. OE Mercedes rear rotors were $109.59 each.
