SL 600 Hard Top- same part as on SL500?

undefinedundefinedundefinedHey, y'all, former 560SEC owner here, currently researching a used Benz, and looking to get into topless in an SL500 or 600. Found an SL 600 in PA with 65K on it, 1999, going for under 30g's but no hard top comes with that price tag. Is the hard top for an SL 500 interchangeable? I was thinking I'd go for a used top instead of a new one. The car is black with chrome AMG's. I'm gonna try to attach a photo here of the car. Were those OEM or after market dips? Anyone know? Thanks for reading.

Yes, the SL500 and SL600 hardtops are interchangeable, the only difference is that the 600 came standard with the panorama hardtop(full glass roof), which was optional on the 500...

Thanks, akbro. Got any idea how much one of those panaroma roofs goes for? I see a few other '99 -'02 SL600's here on the east coast from the mid 40's down into the sub 30K price range. I've done CarFax on some of them, most of them were registered as corporate lease vehicles. Gonna test drive an SL600 tomorrow, spent all last week in an '01 SL500, great car.

when new, the panorama hardtop option on a SL500 ran about $3,600...id say $1500 would be a reasonable price for a used one...

Right on, thanks for the info. I test drove an SL 600 today, and I did feel the advantages in power of the V-12, especially in acceleration at highway speeds of 70+ mph. If I can get the dealership to cut me a nice price, I should be one of the SL 600 club by this weekend.

cool! what year was the 600 you drove today? was there a ride quality difference between the 500 and 600?(600 has Adaptive Damping System)...also, what was the engine sound difference between the V8 and V12? I'm very curious...hope you get a good price!

It was an '01 SL600, the exhaust note was a bit more like a 60's American V8 than that of the 500, but of course not nearly as baritone as those old V8s. I did notice a bit less lean in corners, and I am amazed at the way the suspension on both the 500 & 600 soaks up the notorious DC potholes.
