S320 CDI and SL320
buying guide R129
Hello,
I'm in search for a good buying-guide for a R129, especially the 6-cilinders-models. So a site with lots of info like known problems, what to look for, build dates, etc.
Can somebody help me?
Tnx

Yeah, I know.
But before I ask stupid questions, I would like to inform me about the R129.
But tnx for the reply
PS: please forgive me my bad English, but I am a Belgian (so Dutch and French are my 'main'-languages )

I used to have a link to a year over year summary of R129 changes. But I can not get there any longer (lack of internet hits?).
Try this one. An official MB page giving historical details:

Buying a 129 is easy:
- Avoid buying the oldest cars (pre 95), there were two facelifts, 96 and 99
- Buy on condition, not age or mileage
- Buy original, Non-MB body/suspension/wheel add-ons subtract value
- Buy history, look for receipts and service history
- Anything which doesn't work is going to be expensive to fix, so make sure everything works (roof, roll bar, electrics, seats)
- Buy a sensible colour - silver/black/blue/red (maybe). There were some truly awful colour combinations made
Best models to go for: in Europe, an SL320 probably. Avoid the SL300-24 and, dare I say it, the SL600!
Good Luck!

I found this on another forum ... at a glance it could be very good:
The best history is at www.r129sl-club.de
The site is in German.
You can also translate it using the Babel Fish translator at Altavista. Click "Der 129 SL" and then "Geschichter" (History) for a comprehensive analysis with pictures.
