Keys, again

Still trying to get a master key made for a 99SL....of course, the factory has no blanks and no plans for any. (Shame on you guys).
The question is : does anyone know when the eis key came into play on the 129? I think I can get a plain master cut if it is not eis...
Thanks for any thoughts you can offer...
Again, shame on the once proud company that used to service and support everything. You listening MBUSA? (Not that you care anyway...)

FYI I got mine 2 weeks ago, called MB Canada and told them I lost my key and the local dealer said they couldn't order one for me since it's not longer available So i asked them how do I drive my car ?
I filled a complain with them and a few days later the dealer called and said to come order the key. 3 weeks later I got it !

Steve, LA car Tech can make me one without the car? By the VIN?
I would even take a non-remote key if it would work all the functions...

My understanding is that he can make a key from data you can get from the car. I'm not sure it's the VIN -- it might be some other data source within the car. But, if you are getting a second, remote flip key, he will need to have yours. Without it, your original key will be deactivated. But I suggest you give him a call.

It took La Car tech 1 day to get my duplicate key and put it back into the mail. A total of 8 days from the time I mailed them my original and I received them back. Additionally they replace the old damaged panic button on the original. They were very helpful in helping me sync the new key to the car. Now I have a back up that works.

What year did they start putting transponders in the keys? My 96 can use any key that matches the keyhole and cut to shape, obviously no key communicating with car going on in 96. Sometimes simplicity works well.

You would have to check when MB decided to start using "Passive Alarm System" (Pats they call it). The transponder or key is somehow ties into the board on your speedo cluster or a remote board under the dash.
